I'm sure this has come up before and has probably been written about, but before I started getting the magazine.

But would it be possible for someone to write an article about how sets are actually made. Maybe it could be done over a few issues.

I'm talking about the whole process. From conception of the idea of what the set will be about, to deciding what will go on the cards, if there will be autos or not, manufacture of the cards, and then ending with the cards ready for sale.

I realise that the article would not be able to be published until the cards were almost out, but this is something I'd be interested in learning more about. Kind of like a visit to a car factory where you see the design stage and then go out onto the track and follow it round til the end where you have a brand new car.

Wow! I'm having serious deja vu. You wrote exactly what I wanted to say only much better. Smile

I guess one of the problems is that even if someone started writing a series of articles now, they wouldn't get published until autumn 2005.

However, I hope that this will be addressed at some point, the whole creative process behind the sets is something I am interested in and from previous posts lots of other people are too.

I seem to recall an article done by NSU in the early days, I recall that the company was Skybox and it was about the "making" of a set. I will look through my back issues and see if I can locate it.

Actually Lesley, there is only a 2 month delay from when an article is submitted to when it appears in print. The earliest such an article could appear would be March.

An article was written a few years ago that covered some of the steps in the creation of a card set, I haven't been able to locate it.

To write such an article today, someone would have to have a tour of one of the big 3 companies, and take lots of pictures. Most of the companies are often a little secretive of their techniques or what they have planned.

Still, such an article would be of great interest to hard core card collectors.

No I was thinking there would be a time delay for the article because if you started to write it now and wanted to follow a set through from conception to release then it would have to be a set that was being thought about now and obviously the manufacturer wouldn't want the article to be released until the time that the set was coming out in case anything slipped out.

As NSU takes submissions for articles maybe one of the manufacturers could write the article and take photographs themselves. A kind of insiders view or diary.

Perhaps Over Worked Mom has a suggestion on how this could be accomplished.

Smile

Really, I would love an opportunity to stretch my writing abilities, but like T said, I'm so deep right now, I don't think I'll see the light of day til spring right now Smile

Having said that, I suppose I should return to work now...

Without giving too much away, let me just say that we're listening. Something inspired by this thread appears to be in the works.

As Chandler might say...

Can I be any more vague?
