Here's Hulk vs Thanos. Smile
This one was really fun to work on but a tad difficult. Because the details are so small, I had to be really be careful when laying down the colors. The ink inside the art markers I use can over bleed on the small canvas if I don't lift it off the card fast enough, which could result in sloppy coloring within the tiny spaces in the objects themselves. But I managed to pull through it. I held back from posting this as I wanted to review it a couple days later and see if anything is missing. At this point, I think it's safe to say the piece is complete. And thus here it is ladies and gentlemen. Hope you enjoy this piece.

Juggernaut vs Venom next! Let's keep rockin!!!

Wow, incredible! Hint - She Hulk vs. Titania. I know I know, it's been done many times, but I'd LOVE to see your take on it. In fact I'd love to commission something like that!

I'd love to try that, Cardaddict. Something intense with great body expression. Maybe in the new future, chief. ;]

And thank you for taking the time. Szym. I'm glad you like it. :]

It's about 3am now and I wanted to post this card up before hitting the hey to rest up for another day of pure RRROCKIN!! :box: hehe..

Well, this one had me going in circles. The more complex the details are, the harder it is to figure out how to set the atmosphere with colors. When I drew this, I completely forgot to focus on where these two characters were fighting. Because of this, I ended up having to improvise my setting and come up with a scheme and light source to help accentuate the energy in this scene without making it look obvious.... Coloring... it's still a uncharted region in my mind. But I'm making more progress here. It's kind of easy for me to color things when using one simple light source which could be white or neutral light...but it's a whole other story when you decide you want to use a different palette of colors to create a more complex atmosphere.
I really hope I did the line art justice here. hmm...

A combination of markers, soft lead pencils, acrylic paint and inks were used to develop the final piece. Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy this card.
Rock on, family.

Super fantastic as always. I'm amazed at all the detail you can get in a sketch card format. It must take at least an hour to draw something like that. Maybe even an hour and a half. I particularly like the musculature on your cards. It's 'over the top' if you will, but it looks absolutely perfect at the same time. I don't know how you do it, I can't draw a straight line with 2 C-clamps and a ruler.

Thanks Cardaddict! It takes me about 6 hours or more to fully complete a card, actually. And that's without the interruptions I face daily. Wink
I approach every card as if it were an 11x17 comic book art board. Every time I start one, I take it very seriously and go through my usual process of studying the character, figuring out a layout I haven't really tried before and rendering it out with ink. The coloring process is a whole other story that to this very day, still intimidates me. If it weren't for that, the card art would be done in half the time. I'm hoping eventually, it will become second nature as it is with inking my work. Thanks again.

With that said, I bring you The Silver Surfer, traveling through a warp hole, searching for planets to quench the immense hunger of Galactus!
I originally wanted to add a visual of Galactus's face in the back ground but I really wanted the focus to be on the Surfer instead this time around. Hope you enjoy it. Colors coming up later tonight. Rock on! Thumb Up

And the inked version.

It's amazing how much depth the inking adds to the art. Some people like pencil sketches, but I tend to admire the inked and colored versions more. My remark about the cards taking an hour or so to do was strictly tongue in cheek. I am amazed it 'only' takes about 6 hours to draw them.

As soon as I pay my property, auto, homeowners insurance, electric, heating and other bills I am going to commission a card from you! Give me another 10 years or so. Hopefully sooner!

Heh! 10-4 on that chief. Wink

Back when I first jumped into comic cards (Marvel Masterpieces 2007), It took me 2 hours, more or less to complete each card. I was working from say 8am/9am up until 1am every single day without very little distractions. Eventually I began to hunger for more refinement but without losing that grit I've come to be attached to in my work. Naturally, as I began to really focus on every piece, things only took longer to complete and drained more energy physically as well mentally, lol.
But I love doing it this way. I'm not a "fast food" type of artist. I believe every thing you put out, has a bit of your energy in it. Provide it a soul and it can become a timeless piece. Well.. that's just my belief. ;]

I've been fascinated with trading cards, ever since I was a kid and I always wanted to draw sets for Marvel. Eventually, I'm going to have to do a full on base card set for them some day. I would love to have a shot at doing something like that with them or DC. Wink

Oh, here's the fully colored Silver Surfer btw!
Hope you guys like it. I have more work coming soon. Have a good evening Cardaddict and thanks for keeping up with me here. You're a good guy.

I can't believe it only takes you 6 hours to make one of those sketches. In 6 hours I could probably get a stick figure on a card! They are beyond amazing. I am extremely jealous and hope someday to be able to afford one of your pack sketches to add to my collection. I don't think I could commission a piece since every one I see I want! Maybe I could trade you my house for some sketches. How do you feel about living in New Jersey?

Do you have any favorite sketch artists that are in current products?

Hey there, been a while!

Here's a couple of news ones.
First is the Hulk - I had this layout sitting on my desk for a while. It was actually a warm up sketch and I never really intended on finishing it. But after some time I decided to play with it. I had this funny idea of Hulk hopping from one car to another, in a zig zag, although not practical (or nice of him).

Here's how it began. A very loose sketch.

Here's the finalized inked piece.

And here's the completed colored piece.

Every time I draw Marvel characters like the Hulk, it sends me back to the 80's when I was about 8 - 9 years old and I used to have a small stash of late 70's and early 80's Marvel comic books that were given to me by a neighbor friend. As a kid, I was really mesmerized by their strange nature and mysterious origins. It really fed my imagination to no end. To this day, I always recall that time and thus whenever I get to draw these guys, I try to emulate that essence within each piece. Inject as much personality, attitude and energy within each character with a modern touch, but never stray too far from who they were the day they were created.

Next is Omega Red vs Wolverine!
For this battle scenario, I decided to go with a more up close shot rather than a distant shot just to change it up a little. Doesn't really make it any easier. The closer the characters are against the canvas, the harder it is to dictate their actions without clipping too much of it and leaving the viewer confused.

Here's the preliminary sketch

Here's the finalized inked piece

And the colored version.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed producing them. I have more work coming in soon. You guys take care and of course Rock On!! Smile

Nar has great artwork here at NSU. I've always wondered what a commissioned card would cost.

Mister E - you could always ask him, I am sure Nar would let you know. For the standard of artwork, I believe it is excellent value for money.
