Got my tickets for Thurs and Fri yesterday. I didn't want to have those be sold-out as well. That would not be good considering I booked my hotel the day they first were available.

See you all in SD come late July Big Grin

I know someone who is volunteering at the con. Three hours a day gets you free admission for the remainder of the day. This might be an alternative for those of you who really want to go on the sold out dates.

So, did we confirm that Topps is definitely not going to be at Comic Con this year?

As a matter of interest, does anyone know the ratios of people attending each day? I only have one visit as a point of reference but the preview night didn't seem any less crowded than the rest of the days. I assume it works something like this:

10,000 for all 5 days
18,750 additional visitors for the remaining 4 days

Would this be about right?

I don't know the exact numbers but I believe your way short. Total numbers in the past hover around 100,000 for the event. Thursday and Sunday tend to be the lighter days.

numbers are definitely over 100,000 - they even have to close the convention hall at various times at the fire marshall's request as numbers were at the maximum -

Numbers were around 130,000 for all 5 days last year. I don't think that number includes convention staff and professionals either.

10,000 x 5 days = 50,000
18,750 x 4 days = 75,000
Total = 125,000

Can' see that being "way short" Confused

I think what they're trying to tell you (and if memory serves, I think they're right) is that your per day numbers are much too low. You're coming up with 125,000 total, it seems, but it should be more like 125,000 per day (though preview night is usually a bit lighter, let's say 80,000). So, using your formula:

125,000 x 4 days: 500,000
80,000 x 1 day: 80,000
TOTAL: 580,000

(Which is really only 125,000 attendees, counted once for each full day plus 80K of them counted for preview night also)

Did I get that right, guys? Maybe I'm totally off, in which case, I blame the brain cells I lose at work every day. Smile

I think "what's that smell?" will be the second most popular phrase! Wink

Hope to get a chance to meet some of y'all this year.

Just booked at the Marriott Del Coronado. Was wondering what the best way was to the convention center. Taxi, Water Taxi or have the wife drop me off there. She's not attending the Con, just enjoying the getaway.

I'm leaning towards her dropping me off.

Last year on preview night I arrived at about 3 PM and there was a pretty good line so I thought I'd get there earlier this year so I could be sure to get that 1 must have exclusive. Since I'm attending alone, it makes it a real challenge to get multiple items at different booths. Last year after I got my first item the lines were so long at the other booths it was impossible and many of the exclusives either sold out or they stopped selling for that day. Either way it was very frustrating to plan & wait for so long and only come up with one exclusive that night. Hardly worth it. Heck one year I couldn't even get my 1st pick cause it sold out so quick! Now it seems like more are handing out appointment tickets in a effort to cut down on line sizes.

The problem with showing up even earlier is I read on the SDCC site that badges would not be handed out till something like 3 PM or 4 PM. So I'm not sure how that will affect thing. Hard to get in the line at noon without a badge.

Might make it to the "Con", next year, since my "daughter and (by then) 2 grandsons" will be living in San Diego and want me to come out and visit. Her husband just got deployed for 6 months to Iraq and the gulf area. In the Navy onboard the USS Ronald Reagan battleship. Thumb Up

Hey there, I'm going to the San Diego con for the first time this year and got a 4 day pass with the preview night. I'm staying in a hostel near the convention centre cos I can't afford a hotel and want to be able to just walk over. But I was hoping you guys could help me out with a few questions....
1-Do you have to pay extra to get autographs from guests or is everyone different? If so, what is the average price?
2-Do the comic artists charge for sketches?
3-Is it best to buy something you want as soon as you see it as stock normally goes quick or maybe wait til Sunday for discounts?
4-What are the queues like for general comic panels compared to the movie ones?
I'll prob have more questions to come, but any help would be awesome. I'm flying over from New Zealand for a month and going to a WWW PPV and Raw, UFC100 and the UFC expo in Vegas then finishing up in San Diego for the con......
