I know I'm going to regret this, and it will probably be deleted, but...

We are card collectors, we are here on a non-sports site, not facebook. "the blog."

Not all those words are mine, so don't blame me...

Ed

It's a good point, Ed. There are 7 or 8 threads on here for Philly, asking web surfers to leave any site to get more information is asking a lot from them, in this case it's no different. I think it would have been an easier transition if there were a link or tease to the blog article.

That said there still does seem to be less discussion about this show that the previous one.

I think it's just that a lot of people are tired - some of us are getting older and it takes an extra day or two to recover from everything Smile.

I'm sure that once Harris is finished being tour guide then there will be pages of photos for everyone to look at.

Laura is exactly correct. I am tied up right now being tour guide for Paul. And once that's over, I'll be busy doing what I normally would have been doing in these few days -- playing catch-up after the show. But somewhere in there, I plan to post pictures both here and in the blog.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. We're now doing both. Posting in the blog and on the forum. We're doing some things in the blog that we couldn't do before because we didn't have the room in the magazine or the appropriate place on the forum. So now collectors are getting more and paying the same. Smile

I know I had a great time and would love to set up again in the future. It was great talking to my fellow artists Laura, Charles and Scott, plus meeting Paul in person was of course fantastic. I'm glad we pulled it off! Plus I won a box of CBLDF Liberty Trading cards at the Sunday morning gathering, so I had that going for me! It was a long drive, and a rough day at work yesterday, but well worth it!

Well as I asked the question and started the thread, that makes me the bad guy !!!! the hobbies falling apart, go ask Harris "I don't see what all the fuss is about" Interest Harris
thats what, a show report to me is more important than how many miles, report of round robin would be better than its almost time for R/Robin sorry for showing interest blah

I don't get it John. Bob posted two show reports, both on the blog. It's just a click away, or at least, a couple of them. Many have posted things here. Yet people still seem to be unhappy and/or complaining.

So what I'm hearing is you (and not just you, you understand) don't want NSU to change or grow. Is that it. Or is it that there hadn't been enough posted about the show itself? Or that too much has been posted about extracurricular activities? What are you unhappy with?

This was kind of my point (I'm not unhappy), but the blog is only a click away if a link is provided. . . if you don't know the link of the blog then you have to hunt for it. . .

It a little. . . different than all of the sudden certain things that people would generally expect to be posted on Card Talk are now getting posted somewhere else. The blog is a different animal that a forum, you can't have a discussion on a blog. . . it's not the same, it's less personal. That's not to say that it's bad, but when things are moved from the community oriented forum to the not-community-oriented blog people are going to have a reaction to that because it's different.

I could be wrong, but it sounds to me like people are a little upset that Harris took a couple of days vacation to show Paul around before posting show pictures. Since most of Harris' vacations are working vacations, I think everybody needs to cut him some slack. He says he'll get the pictures up and he will. If you look at other threads he usually does post a link to the blog from within the forum, in addition to putting links from Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, whatever. The blog is not a subtraction from the NSU site; it's a free addition.

I think you guys are missing John's point.

Where are comments from people about the card talk meeting. I personally found it interesting that one of manufactures was going to make Binder artwork available to collectors so that we can make our own binders. I've already suggested to Rittenhouse that maybe they could do the same thing with sell sheets. I found the heated discussion about premium packs very exciting and I think a dicussion in card talk should be started.

How about what people picked up in trade, purchased etc. While its nice the Batman did a blog, but what about the rest of the people at the show. It use to be that the day of the show people would make posts and not have to have John ask "what happened at the show"

Nobody made mention that one of the dealers had recently died from cancer and that his parents were selling off his inventory and giving the proceeds to the cancer society.

Maybe people are afraid of being beaten up here on the board. Look how John stating this thread has turned out. People are making comments about blogs and Red Robin and not about the show.

Did no one have a good time at the show??

The show is about non-sport trading cards, not about going to the casino or Red Robin.

I know there were some dealer problems that I need to discuss with Roxanne and Harris, but that doesn't belong on the board.

Thanks for the info, Dave. . . I'd be curious to hear what the premium pack discussion was.

Wow, that's really tragic. Hopefully they were well supported at the show. It really touches on one of my fears with having a big collection of stuff that no one in my family really knows anything about.

The premium pack discussion was asked of all the manufacturers and just about all stated that they probably would be producing some type of set in this format in the future. Famous Fabrics is a premium pack format, RA has done several, and Mike from Topps pointed out that the Wacky Old School releases were a type of premium box format, and Breygent has done several premium box type releases. A dealer responded that even thought these type of packs/boxes sell well, they are not popular with dealers as it's tough to make base sets and it can take a lot of money to put one together and they don't have sets to sell to customers. They might be popular, or selling well, but that's only because dealers and collectors are forced to buy them as that's the only way to get the cards. Steve from RA pointed out that with many licenses the only way for it to be successful is to be released in a premium pack format, as it would not work as a traditional box release. The alternative is that the sets never get produced, and he felt that something is always better than nothing, which I agree with. It was a passionate discussion, and I don't think everyone was satisfied, but everyone had valid points, I think it's all about change, which people by nature are reluctant to accept, but it will work out over time based on what collectors buy.

Interesting. . . thanks for the summary. . .

I can understand why dealers who break product may not feel as though they have as much to offer with premium packs. I think the market for them is slightly different than a traditional release.

That said I think a premium pack is an attractive option for a comic shop. There isn't anything to cherry pick, and it's a lower price point. I think in order to capture that market they would need to produce a less expensive 'box,' I don't see a hobby shop that normally orders 2-3 boxes picking up a box of premium packs.

What I find interesting lately, though, is that you can release a premium pack product and a bunch of people get upset, but if you release a 'factory set' -- like The Brady Bunch -- no one seems to complain about the format.

I didn't see a need to recap what happened at the CT Breakfast as that was video recorded and will be posted once Harris gets some time. As far as the premium pack dicussion... there's a seperate topic for that so I didn't see the need to start that debate here. But... personally I like the Vampirella/Brady Bunch format.... I really just want a base set, I'd sell/trade the autograph/sketch cards but at least it's not going to cost me $50+ to get a set and I don't have to worry about not being able to find all the base cards I need. That's why I think there's less complaining about the base set + chase format... it's a better value and caters to both the base card and autograph/sketch card collectors.
