Just got back from the show and i have to say the location set up was a bit of a strange one.
To hold the show in a football stadium was ok but to then put the guests in little alcoves scattered around the concourse of the stadium was very strange ( it was like going in to see Father Christmas ). It was very cold for most of the day and it is the first time i have ever seen guests signing with shawls and blankets wrapped around them. For the most part the dealer areas were indoors and there was no problem there, some complained they were too hot. The usual array of dealer tables were on show with about 5 or 6 card dealers in attendance to give me something to look at ( i even purchased some ) The crowds were great and the location had certainly not put people off going. When the show opened at 9.00 the car parks were covered in cars and the queue's stretched around the stadium. There was no let up in the crowd numbers all day long, as some left others turned up and the dealer hall was as packed as the shopping centre used to be at times making it difficult to actually get from one table to the next. On the guests front Leonard Nimoy was holding centre stage, when we left at 4.00 he was upto ticket number 1000 which at £25 a signature is nice work if you can get it. Nathon Fillion was doing very well also along with Avery Brooks. The big disaster on the guest front was Naoki Mori failing to show up. Some of the people i spoke to had only gone to the show to see her and were going away very unhappy. I think CSI Dave was one of these and so i did not get to see him, maybe next time. Bad taste in the mouth moment of the day came late on when one of the card dealers dropped their guard for 2 seconds and someone stole a pile of money off their back table and ran for it. Chase was given but the culprit got away. Not a nice thing to happen to anyone and i hope it does not spoil their weekend too much. Keep smiling you two. Message for Harris: Mr Hart is doing very well thank you and was doing rather nicely on his stall today. So all in all another strange day out on Wolfietour 2009 but nice and enjoyable also allthough i and a few shivering guests will be happy when it all moves indoors for next time. ____________________ Come, it is time for you to keep your appointment with The Wicker Man. |

Thanks everyone for the reports. All I can say is "very interesting."
That sounds bizarre placement for the guests. Can't really imagine that. Thanks Wolfie for the "Hart-check." That's a horrible story about the dealer getting his cash taken. Really horrible. Sorry to hear that Naoki Mori didn't show, Dave. ____________________ Promo Card Encyclopedia & Price Guide -- Brand new for 2008. Visit the PCE page. |

Hi
Heres my 2 pennies worth!! The show was very well atteneded-friday was the quietest but people were arriving on the buses all day long-so there were quieter periods. The venue wasnt ideal considering the change in weather-but if it had been like the previous week-no one would have complained at being outside. Next year the purpose built convention centre will house everyone and with a hotel also onsite and one of the organisers saying they will get the AA or Rac to put up road signs-things will only get better!. The show was all in all very good-not the same as the centre -that we all loved-but i think the show had outgrown the centre anyway and it was a brave move to relocate-and as far as i could see ,the public relocated as well in huge numbers.sunday was also very busy and next year it will be a four day show!!!. Asda/walmart was close by so chocolate and cherry bakewells were within easy reach!. Im sure the next show will iron out any problems found this time around and be bigger and better! |

Thanks for that Paul - I guessed Friday would be the quietest day and as you say had it been the week before outside would have been lovely. The convention centre sounds promising as well. Glad you had a good couple of days

I hate a show being on the day before i attend, i just assume anything worth buying will be gone before i get there. I remembered to send you the email. ____________________ Come, it is time for you to keep your appointment with The Wicker Man. |

A 4 day show must increase dealers costs (Hotel, Table rent etc) but does it increase revenue? Unless the 4 days are over a bank Holiday will significant additional numbers of people come over 4 days than 3? |
