Well, since no one else has started one I guess I'll get to it. . .
It's difficult to put Wizard in perspective after getting back from San Diego less than a week before the show started. . . The show is large, and from a dealer standpoint has nearly as many card dealers as San Diego (Sci-Fi Cards, Dave Moulder, K&J, Looky Here, Derek Woywood, and a few other booths with cards mixed in with other stuff). (By my count San Diego had 6 card dealers). A TON of sketch card artists. . . I'm not even going to attempt to name them as since I'd guess there are close to 30 of them from various sets. Most of them are pretty close to the same area in the Artist Alley, but a few are in the smaller artist alley/small press area as well. I managed to pick up a couple of things, a great sketch from Ed Webb at Sci-Fi Cards, some stuff from Steven Miller (in the smaller-artist alley area), a few pages of animation art, and some paintings from Dave Aikins. The only fellow Card Talker I saw was Mike (venom5liter). . . I'll be heading back tomorrow for a bit and will try to snap some pictures. . . Jon This message has been edited. Thanks for reporting on WW...There will be a show in Dallas in November so I'm curious what to expect....How about the movie exhibitors and freebie selection?

Hi Billzee. . .
Sorry -- Those really aren't my things at a convention so I didn't pay any attention to those aspects. Jon ____________________ Webjon.com is back -- blogified! And now featuring trade lists! |

Here are the sketches I picked up at WW. Any estimates on what the Sohn would sell for? I haven't had reason to watch those sell before now, and paid a bit for it -- hopefully not too much! (It's not for sale or trade, and I don't see any recent eBay sales).
Thanks in advance! Jon ____________________ Webjon.com is back -- blogified! And now featuring trade lists! |

Just getting settled after my weekend at WW and wanted to give a shout out to the folks at Looky Here who helped me complete my Sporanos Master Set! Thanks!
Fox Atomic and Lionsgate were both there but their booths and the caliber of giveaways were less that what you'd find in San Diego, and neither one hosted any signings or appearances. Over all, I'd say that any of the Wizard cons are more comic book and gaming oriented and less T.V. and movie oriented. You'll find it easier to talk with artists and writers, maybe find more dealers with affordably priced books and less of the flash of SD. They are radically different shows, that is for sure. I am personally glad that next year Wizard World Chicago is in June, before SD, because going just a few weeks after SD makes WW feel a little disappointing. On a high note, I was able to finish a few chase sets, that Sopranos Master St, bought a ton of Little Lotta comics that were scarce in SD and spent less on a painting I had seen in SD...so...ups and downs! ____________________ Please remove "No Spam" to email me. |

Bill, I went to WWTX in 2005 and I didn't think it was anything to write home about. Lots of bootleg DVD merchants but mostly comics folk set up. Only one film company that I can think of. I wasn't impressed by the freebies. Having said that, the show is bigger by multiples than anything Texas has seen since the Dallas Fantasy Fair went under and I'd recommend going if you're from the area. -Bob- ____________________ Reasonable doubt for reasonable people! |

I hope you did not pay much for the one on the left. ____________________ Come, it is time for you to keep your appointment with The Wicker Man. |

I actually really like that card, and had been looking for a deal on one for quite a while. . . finally found it -- only $10.

From a dealers standpoint I had a great time. Sold over 400 sets, a bunch of autos and costume cars. The show was busy for me all 3 days. The thursday preview night was ok.
The most unusal cards I sold were a set of New Kids on the Block. I put it out as kind of a joke because the one guy is the host of the singing game show. I have a few days to rest up before Gen Con starts on Thursday. Actually went into Chicago for the 1st time. After 6 years of doing WW Chicago I figured I should see the city once. Very nice place to visit. I was suprised how clean it was and how nice the people were. Anyway, off to Indiana for a week and then home for 2 days before heading down to Dee's show. If anyone has sets to being to Dees LMK. I have some big holes. Dave |
