It's the first time I'll be going. For anyone who has gone in years prior, what's the non-sport trading card presence like?

Sad to say I've been there and just about the only cards I found were a few game cards. If you like postcards there were a number of free ones given out. I really had hoped to find some nice anime cards there but no luck. I do have a lot to trade.

From a non-sports cards perspective, my experience was no different than Frank's in previous years. The only trading card collectibles were Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh! related.

But for fans of the genre, this event is a complete blast!

I didn't go on Friday because of work and a KMFDM show.

On Saturday, I attended the Soul Eater screening where they showed the first three episodes of the English dubbed TV series. This was followed by a brief Q&A with the director and voice actors of the English dubbed version as well as the producer of the entire franchise who flew in from Japan for the event. After the panel, they distributed a promo postcard - my one free pickup of the weekend. (An extra will be for trade.)

That was the only panel I attended because I wanted to get a good spot for the Ring of Honor (pro-wreslting org featured in the Mickey Rourke film The Wrestler) event later that evening. The main event featured Nigel McGuinness vs Bryan Danielson in their last match before heading to the WWE.

On Sunday, I watched Gurren Lagann The Movie, attended the Scott Westerfeld panel on his upcoming steampunk themed novel Leviathan (to be released on 10/6) and attended the panel "How To Get A Job In Video Games".

Cosplay was out in its glorious full force. It's a bit of a headturner to see women getting their corsets tightened. Fortunately, I had the good sense not to take pictures of that Razz

I drank free cups of energy drinks. I ate free sushi on a stick. I bought the three issue Serenity: Better Days comic book series for the cover price. I bought a stuffed puppet dragon. I was hoping to buy some manga series but the bargains weren't really there.

I wish I had gone in previous years. Next year will be challenging to determine what panels and screenings I'll be attending because NYAF will be held at the same place and time as NYCC (on 10/8-10/10 at the Javits Center). But that's really not a bad problem to have Smile
