While I would miss folks like Tony, I belive that some of us "little" dealers might be able to take care of folks as well. Wavey

Yep, like Tony says it's a little to far for us Southern Dealers for a single day show. I should be there in the fall.. Just hold off on the Rain this time..Pleeeeease... Thumb Up

Personally -- I'd like to see some of the 'little' dealers -- any new dealers are great . . . Mixing it up is good!

I've got to agree with Iggy and Jon, Chicago is a big enough market to have a 1 day show along with a 3 day fall show.

Honestly it's not much different than last year where the spring show was a 2 day affair. If you know it's only one day then all the deals get done in that day. Saves me a night in a hotel.

The east coast has plenty of 1 day shows that don't impact the Philly show at all, so I'm not sure how this could hurt business at the fall show.

The only down side is if it takes up too much of Paul's time. But I'm guessing a scaled-back 1 day show would be a breeze for Paul to do after doing the bigger shows.

I'm all in, just waiting for a date to write on my calendar.

Ed

And just to be fair to poor Ed having to drive all the way from Michigan, I think we should have the show out south...there is a very nice Holiday Inn just off of I80 on Harlem...in Tinley Park Roll Eyes

Hi All- I totally agree that the Holiday Inn in Tinley park is a GREAT location, our shows there did draw many people- however, the cost just did not justify the means, plus a whole bunch of mangement issues at the hotel. To top it off, when I checked again with them on rates, 2 years ago, they had increased approx 20-30%.
Also checked into the Comfort Inn on 159th which would be another great location- however, they cater to weddings extensively and do not want our type of event there. However, if you come up with a hotel with a decent sized ballroom, free & ample parking, close to an expressway, good area, and a reasonable cost, please, by all means drop me a line.I am always looking for new venues. I am talking to a couple of other places south and the cost really needs to be adjusted. Due to business being slow, I think some of these places are trying to make up for the lack of business when they do get someone interested.Kind of backwards, wouldn't you say?
But will keep checking as I always have, and if I come up with a place south, I will let everyone know.
Thanks for the input. Keep plugging away, the spring date will be announced shortly, just a couple of more things to nail down.
Take care, Paul

In my area most shows are held in shopping malls, schools, community centers, civic club halls, and even church fellowship centers.
Tinley Park and Joliet would be great locations for a one day show. Good luck.

Hi Paul I know they were having some trading cards show every couple of months at the Orland Park Community Center. That was about 3 years ago and mainly sports cards. I also know that they also have Toy Shows pretty frequently at the Bridgeview Community Center. Just some food for thought.

Actually, the Orland Park shows are twice monthly (I have been a regular dealer at this show for about 10 years). As for Toy Con (ano other promotions at Oremus Center), Paul is well versed and some of them are run by Terry (who is on Paul's staff of helpers for the larger shows).

Anyone have any more info on these Orland Park shows? I haven't heard of them, and I'm in the area -- I'd love to check 'em out.

Jon

Hi Jon,
The Orland Park show is a mostly a sports card show, last time I went, there was one supplies dealer, one person with sports cards had a box of older comics, one or two people with toys, beanies, and once in a while, you will find nonsports there. It has been about 3 years since I last visited, things may have changed.
As far as Toy Con, run at the Bridgeview Community Center(Oremus), it is a great show.Terry and Rich are fantastic people and do a good job. Mostly toys, one to three dealers with comics, 1 dealer with nonsports as a regular, once in awhile, one or two addl dealers with some nonsports. 1-3 dealers with DVDs.There is a link to Toycon on my site. The Orland info can be found in the Baseball Beckett, or at least, you used to be able to find it there.
Hope this helps.Take care,
Paul
