Time again for this show...Sunday, July 12. A large room of 50 tables...30-40 dealers. Mostly comics and toys...previous shows there have been 2-4 non-sports dealers there including me....Nathan, give a shout out if you will be there. Please stop by and say hello as I would love to see/meet Card Talk members!

This is the 2nd show for the new location...Just a short 10 minute drive over the bridge if you are coming from Tampa....closer for those of us in Pinellas!

Main guest is comics legend Chris Claremont of X-Men Fame! There are many other guests...click the link to find out who will be there.

I am located near the front entrance...2 tables of cards, comics, posters and more! I am in the process of trying to get some goodies...Just tell me you saw this on Card Talk and I should have some promos for you! Also, always looking to trade/buy, so bring some stuff and lets deal!

Hope to see you there!!

Great trading with you David.
Thanks to you & RA for the ST promo.

I figured I had to go to the Tampa comic show because Chris Claremont & Joe Rubinstein were going to be there. Big fan of Claremont including the High Frontier sci-fi trilogy he wrote.
I'd been hoping Joe would have some cards there because I liked his WOM work but have never been able to get one. I was thrilled to get this card from him and also enjoyed chatting with him. He was saying he is starting to do some watercolour work and the sports one he had on displayed looked good even if I did not know the people. Plus he had a great one of Stan Lee. I'm sorry I don't have a picture of that.
Sue Storm by Joe Rubinstein

I also got them to sign an extra Wolverine insert that I had plus the tradepaper back I had of the first Wolverine mini-series that they both worked on.
Here's the signed card.

Here is your show report:

With the state of the economy still being in the dumps this show went as well as could be expected. This was the 2nd show at the new location and safe to say it has not hurt....attendance was up from the last show with a crowd there the whole day...probably would have been more if the early afternoon monsoon had not hit! Plenty of people in the room, but as has been the case for the last 18 months, lots of lookers, not many buyers. And those that are buying are playing it close to the vest.

Card sales led the categories with 32% of sales, followed closely by posters with comics and toys and distant 3rd and 4th. Sets sales included: Batman Saga Dark Knight, Batman Forever, Peanuts, Smallville, Simpsons, Marvel 2 and 3, Little Mermaid, Coke 3 and the ever reliable Bettie Page.

Inserts: Disney stickers, Pixar post cards, a variety of low level Buffy inserts, Heroes, and Power Rangers holograms. Sold a good amount out of the $1 insert box....no high level inserts at all which is par for the course at this show.

Had a few box sales: Best of Dave Dorman and...in what is sure to be a sign of the coming apocalypse...4, yes I said FOUR boxes of Desert Storm...series 1, 2, and 3 of Topps + the Pro Set series. You just never know what is going to sell!

Got to see ComicBookFan and do some trading...always nice to see you Cheryl!

A few other people mentioned Card Talk and got their promos. I would be interested in your opinions on the show.

Nathan was the only other card dealer in the room and hopefully he will be by to give a report. I spoke with him briefly at the end of the day and he said he had a good day with wax packs leading his sales. Doesn't surprise me as he had a nice showcase with a mixture of older and newer packs.

Hopefully, future shows will have a few more non-sports dealers.

Saturday night retailers got to listen to a presentation by X-men legend Chris Claremont. Mr. Claremont had just gotten off a plane from UK, but was very interesting in a 2 hour presentation and very gracious in signing items afterwards. Give his new X-Men Forever book a try! Also, thanks to promoter Tim Gordon for setting this up!!

I even managed to have some fun....Cliff made the trek from DeLand and we got to visit and talk a great while...always great to see the mentor from the college days!! Also, my college classmate Tommy and his daughter Katie were along with Cliff...Jim and Lisa made the trek from DeLand also. Dave Cubed and his sons Jeremy & Antman were in the house also....Dave and I have been doing shows off and on for 15 years now. No matter how sales are 1 thing is for sure...we will always have fun at a show and yesterday was no exception!!

Again, my thanks to promoter Tim Gordon for another great show...keep up the good work, Tim!!

Next show is November 7, 2009....PLEASE NOTE...this is a Saturday due to the Bucs being in town on Sunday....hope to see you there!

My next show is Mini-MegaCon next month in Orlando, FL. I will post on this shortly.

David
