Today certainly was a hectic day! Wow...what a crowd! But, for the most part, people were patient and courteous, so that made things more bearable. However, the staff at the show really needs to be better informed of what is happening. One person will tell you one thing, only to be contradicted by the next person. That was very frustrating, because you didn't know what you were supposed to do.

The highlight of the day was naturally the Inkworks booth. Uncle Allan continues to outdo himself. Jennifer Love Hewitt is an extremely lovely woman but is also a very sweet person. She was autographing 8 X 10s of "Ghost Whisperer". Of course, the signing event was HUGE with an enormous crowd, not including those of us in line to get autographs. Unfortunately, one Card Talk member actually told Uncle Allan, "You could have organized this better." (To that individual, I award you this... Twak) Thankfully, the vast majority of people were extremely appreciative of Uncle Allan arranging and hosting this incredible event. Thanks, Uncle Allan! Metal

Speaking of thanks, I'd also like to thank both Harris and Andy for the alert of the special Buffy Season 8 comic promo cards that were at the Dark Horse booth. The cards were actually handed out to those who had tickets for the Joss Whedon signing, but I was able to get the cards too.

Today's "Zombie Mask" at the Topps both was of Donald Trump. It's hysterical! I'm eager to see what tomorrow's mask will be.

I got an autograph and my picture taken with Cliff Simon (Baal on "Stargate: SG-1"). As evil as he portrays Baal, he is just as nice and sociable in person. It was a delight to meet him.

At the show, I also saw, George Takei, Seth Green, Joanna Cassidy, James Hong and others. Comic-Con certainly has grown into a celebrity event.

I did get some of the harder-to-get cards for the Classic Sci-Fi & Horror Posters set. It'll still take me a while to put together a master set, but I'm over the hardest part now.

My wife Sue & I will only be able to spend a couple of hours at tomorrows show. We have an afternoon flight back home. If there's anything for me to report from tomorrow's show, I'll post it on Monday. It may be next week before I'll be able to post pictures from the show.

I hope you've enjoyed these reports. It was nice being able to relive the show this way.

Thanks for the reports, they've been very informative.
Having attended ComicCon in 2005, I am well aware of how hectic Saturday is. Your comments about the staff seem to ring a bell from my visit as does the fact that the Inkworks booth on Saturday is an absolute madhouse.
Hopefully anyone who didn't get to attend this year, will be able to make it next year. I know I am definitely going to do my best to attend next year, even if it means going solo. Big Grin

Thanks! One thing I neglected to mention in my previous report was the Heroes booth. Today was the busiest day of Comic-Con, yet there were times today when the Heroes booth was actually shut down! Eek For the life of me, I can't understand why anyone would shut down a booth at the height of activity. Weird....

Hasanyone bought and opened one of the goody bags that Artbox is offering this year? I missed out on their mystery boxes last year because I didn't hear about it, and now I have work during the con and can't go, so I have been living vicariously through others Big Grin

Any thoughts on if they might hit Ebay ever? I doubt it as it looks like people are opening them and selling it off piecemeal, but I can't lose hope... Roll Eyes

I've been having a great tome myself. I'll have a lot of pictures to post soon...maybe tomorrow.

Got to see the Stagate, Battlestar, and Eureka press panels. More panels tomorrow.

I thought our Card Talk breakfast went well, if i do say so myself. Great to see everyone. And our panel on non-sport cards went pretty well with many Card Talkers showing up once again plus another 10 to 15 people "of the street" including two Sony reps.

O t

I think the general feeling about today is that it wasn't as crowded as people thought it might be. I guess cutting of Saturday sales when Comic Con did worked.

If anyone who is hear in SD and reads this, don't forget how last year, many of the booths with cards had them by the bucketload late in the day on Sunday last year (rather then having to ship 'em home). Let's see if that holds true for tomorrow too.

I know that a couple of times on Friday the Heroes booth was shut down so that they could announce raffle ticket winners (or some such thing). I think they probably also did it so people could take pictures of artwork inside of the booth.

I know TWS bought a few of them. It looked like a great deal as Artbox took it a step further and put the stuff inside of a nice cloth tote bag. There were 2 autograph cards randomly in the bags that were exclusive to SDCC. Someone who actually bought a bag can post more accurate information later.
I do think it's rather pitiful/annoying that Artbox produces promos for the show and then doesn't really feel the need to give them out.... at least put up a sign saying promos available with purchase or some such thing. Why bother to make promos if you don't intend to distribute them at the show?

SciFi Channel has a portion of the Atlantis panel on their website. They have a seperate section of their site for Comic Con blogs/videos.
The only day Comic Con didn't sell out this year was Thursday. Friday, and Sunday only tickets both sold out. That could be why Satuday didn't seem too bad.... could also be that most of the bigger events (Paramount, Lost, Star Wars, Stargate) were on Thursday or Friday.
I think Warner Brothers was my favorite booth this year.... they were giving out a really cool, giant Smallville cloth tote bag AND they had lots of cool unannounced signings (B5, Supernatural, Smallville....). Heroes, Inkworks, Weinstein Group, Disney were cool as well but I think WB had a lot more going on compared to prior years so that made them my favorite booth for SDCC 2007.

I got home from the show last night. I couple of things to add.

Friday was also sold out. I arrived at the convention center about 7:00 AM Friday and the line was already around the building.

The breakfast was great. It’s always good to put the face with the names.

I got back to the convention around 9:45 and quickly got my badge. Then we were queued in the hall for more then 30 minutes before we were let in. I raced to the artbox booth for the bags and seen they sold out with about 5 people in front of me. The good thing was they said to come back at 3:00 and they would sell more. They eventually went on sale at 4:00 and I was able to get 2 bags since a buddy stayed in line with me.

The bag breakdown:

Bag 1:
1 - Order of the Phoenix Hobby Box (CFC6 & C2)
1 - Order of the Phoenix Retail Box
1 - Goblet of Fire Tin
1 - 3D Order of the Phoenix SD Exclusive? Binder
1 - Memorable Moments Binder
1 - Ginny Weasley Auto SD con exclusive Limited to 100
1 - Harry Potter Memorable Moments Case Topper
1 - Harry Potter GOF C5 Costume 207/275

Bag 2:
1 - Order of the Phoenix Hobby Box (Neville redemption & C11)
1 - Goblet of Fife Retail Box
1 - Goblet of Fire Tin
1 - 3D Order of the Phoenix SD Exclusive? Binder
1 – Goblet of Fire Binder
1 – Neville Longbottom Sorcerers Stone Auto
1 - Harry Potter GOF Film cell CFC3
1 - Harry Potter GOF C5 Costume 207/275

I was fortunate to see the ComicCon trailer on YouTube before it was taken down for coyright infringement by Paramount.
It looks pretty cool!
They showed Tony Stark being injured - getting the chestplate to keep him alive - developing and using the first grey suit - and it looked like he was test flying the red and gold suit with some fighter jets.
Robert Downey Jr. looks like a spot on Tony Stark.
I think Iron Man fans will be pleased.

My favorite booth was right at the front of aisle 1900. I have no idea what it was called, but they were selling DVD tutorials on all sorts of comic creating topics, drawing, computer design, etc. The drawing tutorial was cool, but what made it my favorite was the fabulously comfy little brown couches they had for people to sit and watch the tutorials (or just rest!). lol It was right across the aisle from Billy Tucci (Crusade Fine Arts), so while the hubby chatted with Billy, my friend and I had a nice relaxing chat and rested our worn out feet.
