I can't say I recall seeing that, except for some sports stars. That seemed high to me too when I saw it posted but then again, I don't go for autographs too much.

AJJ:

I would say at this point that any sort of meeting with space from Expo Managements is extremely doubtful at this point. The only thing that leaves is some sort of rouge meeting like last year, which I sort of am loathe to do (but would go for if something clever could be sorted out). I find this depressing that we weren't able to pull-off some better. Frown

Well after last years behind the van show i'm thinking it would be best if we got out of the hall alltogether and simply stood in the concourse allthough having said that security would probably ask us to move on under the health & safety regulations. Big Grin

Could the meeting take place outside the hall? Using the benches in the foyer/corridor.
Or in one of the cafes as long as people purchased something we could stay in one of them for a while.

Don't fret it. In my opinion, and I hate to say this, although it is how I feel -- that this is no reflection of anything or anyone except the show management. I do feel that if they wanted this to happen, they could make it so (sounds Trek, no?).

The first year I came over, Henry was still running the show and he gave me space -- no problem. The second year, the show management had a outgoing individual who seemed really interested in having us and provided space. But after that, there just didn't seem to be much interest on the part of the show management for our gathering.

Anyway, as I said, don't fret it.

AJJ~ Quaint1 did contact the Subway folks (there is a Subway inside the NEC near the hall where last November's Memorabilia took place) but they did not get back to him. So again, imo, our only option with that would be to take a chance and just show up at said restaurant at said time. And as you said, since we would be paying customers, I don't know what they could do, especially if it wasn't that large of a group. But if the seating area was already crowded, that would present a problem so it would be best to pick an off-hour.

To be optimistic they may be overwhelmed by the number of e-mails sent, never realising how many people would be at this meeting, and are trying to find a space before replying Smile .

I sent my e-mail back when the idea was first suggested and got a reply in two days.

I think meeting in one of the outside food establishments is a good idea,Finding somewhere quiet enough and big enough may be a problem.

Some of the food establishments do not open for serving food until 12 noon, but are open for snacks from vending machines, so in this quiet time, we may be able to meet.

This is just a suggestion and guide, some of the facts may be a bit out.

When I mentioned the cafes I was talking about the yellow fronted ones inside the hall, but Subway would good.

Or we could just nip behind the black curtains and hope no one see's us. Big Grin

As Harris mentioned, I did try emailing Subway but with no reply at all - presumably they are not that bothered about having a group of 20-30 people when they have a more-or-less captive audience of several thousand, or (being charitable) perhaps they don't have the seating space to accommodate a group such as ours)

Unless the show organisers make a last minute response (perhaps offering space in some area of the hall not in use at a particular time) I suspect we'll have to resort to guerilla methods as we did last year - this is hardly ideal, and as several people have already mentioned, scarcely an appropriate act to have for a visitor who actually brings people into the show - lets face it, how many people would bother with Memorabilia if it were not for Harris coming over and giving everyone the opportunity/excuse to meet up with fellow Card Talkers? Big Grin

Regardless, I will be helping out Harris at the NSU stand as usual, with (I'm sure) most of the usual suspects, as well as trying to promote and record the podcast (flyers being printed as I type, with show t-shirts to follow once I get into Primark at the weekend!)

Er, well, there's me, a room full of dealers, 20,000 customers, 3 security dogs, 2 turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree. Big Grin

Actually, I meant people here rather than the general public - many people I've spoken to at previous shows have said the main reason they go is to meet up with Harris and the gang.

Or to meet you of course Wolfie.

That goes for me too. Memorabilia has nothing for me beyond Harris, The Gang inc Patdata &, this year, Uncle Allan, & the ubiquitous Wolfie.

Of course there's the dealers tables but I can see them at Collectormania in MK or on the Bay.

I have little interest in Celebrities, There just ordinary people who happen to work on TV & Cinema. It's the Shows and Characters they play I am interested in, not necessarily the actor person. I have absolutly no interests in Sports, with the possible exception of TNA Wrestling.

Money is in very short supply where I come from and at memorabilia i am just bombarded with a vast miriad of thing that I cannot afford.
So if not for NSU and our annual gathering I would not bother what with the admission charge and Coach fare to get there.

What? Travel for 4 hours, pay stupid prices to get in and park, with no Harris. I don't think I would bother, and I told that to Harris last year!!
