If you live anywhere on the East coast, or in the general area, please, please attend the Philly show in Allentown this weekend. I want to see the show survive, and I think most of you do too. I am afraid that the show might not survive if attendance is not good.

I know the economy is bad, money and jobs are tight, and hobby spending is on the backburner, or greatly reduced for many of you (including me). But the show is a great place to meet up with old friends, see what new products are out, give your input to the Card manufacturers about upcoming and future products, meet some great artists, visit some dealers and hopefully find that long-needed card(s), and get some great promo cards to remember your visit to the show. Relieve the stress of life, and have some stress-relieving fun.

Bring the kids. They will have a great time looking at everything. Some dealers are kid friendly too and make great deals for them and sometime give them some freebies to keep them occupied or hopefully, get them interested in the hobby.....

I know the show admission has been down in the past, and I am just afraid that if attendance continues to decline, they (Reighters and NSU) will have no choice but stop doing the show. I do not know this as a fact, but it is my personal observation.

Thank you to those traveling great distances to attend this show, many for the first time...

I will be there on Saturday and hope you will be too!

Mike.

I second what Mike says, this is the only show of it's kind devoted to only non-sports, it has a great tradition and you don't have to spend a lot of money to enjoy yourself or get get some cool stuff. Pennsylvania is beautiful this time of year, the weather forecast is good, if you are thinking about attending, go! Smile

I'll be there both days Smile It's been a few years since I made it to Philly, but the timing worked out well this year.

I had some vacation days I had to use anyway, so will continue traveling eastward (from Ohio) to the ocean for a few days R&R after the show (free nights in Atlantic City Cool )

Looking forward to meeting some new people and seeing some acquaintances again.

I'll be there on Saturday! Wave I'm really looking forward to it. I wish I could go to the NSU dinner and Donut social, but money's tight. But, I'll once again be there with my lousy cards to trade, so watch out TWS!

I'm traveling 800+ miles (each way) and I'm not the dealer with the furthest drive.

I support the show three ways, first by promoting it to my customers and on my website, second by attending as a dealer which gives everyone another choice of which dealer to buy from, if there wasn't a good selection of dealers attendance will fall even more.

Finally, I offer an "absentee admission" to my regular customers who cannot attend. Some from overseas, some from just too far away, and some that can't make it for personal reasons. I have a list and I'm going to the entrance and buying each of them an admission which gets them the promo cards and supports the show financially. This is a popular service this year with all the promos, but I offer it each show for those that want to support the show and get the promos.

Looking forward to making the trip out and seeing all the folks, but familiar and new faces!

Ed

Hi Ed,

I know you do a great job supporting the show and the hobby...

I know others who buy admission for their absentee friends/customers and that is great.

I of course was directing this post to people not planning on attending and for those you are not buying admissions for.

Looking forward to seeing you Saturday.

Mike.

Mike, I agree with you totally. We are seeing the same things happen in Chicago. So, yes, folks, Please support the show in any way you can. Shows are a terrific venue to get together with old friends and make new ones. Also a great place to shop with close up viewing, and it gives you a chance to speak with the artists, and manufacturers in person, to share your thoughts and ideas.
Diane and I will be there again, and we will be driving in from Chicago. It is only about 10 hours in the car. Not bad at all, and a very nice drive. We are looking forward to the show and the celebration!
Hope to see you all there. Take care, see you this weekend!

I'll be there, as usual, as will Scott Thomas, Don Norton, Michael Beam, Bill DeFranzo and possibly others who have written for NSU in the past year. Along with Roxanne, Marlin, and Harris, we like nothing more than talking to you about the hobby and Non-Sport Update. We, along with some of the hobby's greatest sketch card artists, manufacturers and dealers will all be celebrating this one-in-a-lifetime anniversary show. So be there, or be square.

It's my first posting as a Card Talk member, and I am planning on making my first trip to the Philly show this weekend. Smile I'm really looking forward to attending, especially after seeing so many positive comments from the various posts about the show. I do have one question about the show: is there much trading (with dealers or other collectors) done at the show?

And, you're amenable to trades, thus helping the poorest among us! Big Grin

Hi Curler:

Welcome to Card Talk. Glad to hear that you are making the trip down to the show. You might want to speak with "Jazzer". He was trying to organize some trading among collectors. Not sure if he has anything set up yet or not.

See you at the show. Hope you have fun.

Harris

Don't really have anything formal set up, but I'll be bringing around 60 base sets, some promos & inserts, binders, and other stuff for trading. I have posted a substantial list in the trading area, and added a couple supplemental posts.

Just 4 more days!
