Just letting you all know that Evangeline Lilly cancelled at Wizard. So I'll be there Friday and Saturday, but no hotel for me now.

Well that stinks. Did she say why? Not that she told you personally, Jewel, LOL, but did whatever you are reading give a reason?

Here is what's posted on the Wizard World Chicago page:

Unfortunately, due to a last minute scheduling change beyond our control, we are sorry to announce "Lost" star, Evangeline Lilly, will be unable to appear at Wizard World Chicago.

She will be with her cast mates on location during the weekend of August 4th - August 7th. Miss Lilly expresses her deepest regrets to fans. We look forward to seeing you in Chicago!

If there was a possibility that she'd be on locatio with the rest of the cast, then how in the world did she get committed to an appearance at Wizard World?? Sorry, but I just don't buy the explanation.

Typical BS from Wizard.

This isn't the first time that a major guest has been cancelled at the last minute without any find of alternate. (or anything to make it up to those who planned a trip just to see the special guest)

I enjoy the show every year, but that is in spite of Wizard rather than because of it.
Having just come back from San Diego I'm just amazed at the difference there is when you hire professionals to run a show rather than doing it cheaply by letting 16 year old volunteers bully the paying customers..........

I wish I could disagree with you, but you're right. A few years ago, the big guest was to be Charisma Carpenter. She cancelled at the last minute. One year, Stan Lee was the big guest. He cancelled.

If Comic-Con can get their guests to show up, why can't Wizard?

The thing is, ComicCon doesn't just rely on 1 big guest. Or the same guest year after year.
(Kevin Smith and Alex Ross anyone?) How many more years will it be until they get someone else? It's been what, 5 years in a row now?

If one ComicCon's guests cancel, they usually have a backup plan.

It seems Wizard doesn't care nearly as much about the execution of the actual event as what kind of advertising they can do in order to sell tickets to it. hmm. That kind of reminds me of how they treat the entire comic industry.

I understand your frustration...believe me.

We just have to be careful in how we express our frustration here. What I originally typed as my previous reply and what I wound up actually posting are two, different things. Just as we don't allow the bashing of people or companies, I suppose we'll have include shows.

It's okay for us to express our disappointment and wonder what's going on, though. And believe me, I'm doing both right now.

With it's location in Chicago, Wizard should be able to attract all sorts of celebrities. I'm sure they'd enjoy shopping downtown or even taking in a Cubs game. Why this isn't promoted to celebrities more is beyond me.

Oh well, at least I get to see Margot Kidder and the Card Talk people! (Now, none of YOU are gonna cancel, right?? LOL)

Be careful with her Kevin! Last year at DragonCon no one was stopping by her booth. She was yelling profanities at everyone. John Alex(who was 4 1/2 at the time) was on my shoulders. Being the only person within earshot with a child on my shoulders I heard her scream. You with the ******* kid on your back, ****** come her and buy a ****** picture.

I did not go to her table and did not buy a picture.


Needless to say, she is not on my favorite list anymore!

Well, if some of the stories I've heard about her are true, I'm not surprised to hear about what happened. It's sad when people don't know how to behave themselves in public. At least you know that John Alex was better behaved than she.

I'll let everyone know what happens when I meet her.

My friend Dustin Watchman who is a regular extra on LOST told me that they're filming all weekend. They just started shooting yesterday. So even when I saw up on Wizard about her coming I honestly didn't believe it much. I mean I was going no matter what. But I will say that I agree with many people that I am tired of their big guests cancelling all the time. I do realize that things come up. And for the record, Charisma was NEVER actually scheduled; or should I say never actually committed. We spoke to someone close to her and they told us that she never actually agreed to come. That's why they said she cancelled.

I'm bummed out about it too, I had some cool 8x10s to get signed . . . oh well. I'll still have fun, and I'm doing all 3 days this year for the first time.

Hey Kennywood, I think I met you last year at Paul's show but I'm not sure - I'll hope to bump into you this weekend, I'll just ask every card dealer if they are Kennywood and that should shake things out, hahahaha.

Kane Hodder (Jason) didnt show up to the convention in Hamberg and they had his faxed apology hanging up around the autograph area. I took a photo of my kids pouting next to one and my daughter mailed it along with a letter and a few DVD covers to him. He signed everything and sent it back to her. Thought that was pretty cool ....after we had left the convention my son showed me that he swiped one of the copies of his hand written letter....he said "well at least I got his autograph!".....just had to laugh.

Every year Wizardworld does that, cancels the big name guest, stan lee, nick brendon, charisma carpenter, just to name a few.....
