Happy OTB 2009 everyone Wave

I chose to open a box of Batman archives that I had put away for this occasion!

While my 5 month old daughter was fed by my wife, and therefor couldn`t care less about cards, I unwrapped the box and started to tear open pack by pack. Maybe some years from now I can open a box with the help of her Smile

Well, my big hit of the box:

A nice sketch to add to my collection !

Happy Open That Box Day!

I opened a box of James Bond in Motion (Box 6016 of 9000)

Surprisingly, I was one base card short of a set. Frown (Insert joke here....)

Although I've not seen the movie, this apparently was a "Casino Royale" kind of day, as 3 out of 4 premium cards feature that particular movie:

A103 - Clemens Schick as Kratt
A96 - Daniel Andreas as Casino Royale Dealer

RC23 - Ice Palace Blanket from Die Another Day
DC07 - Steven OBanno's Shirt from Casino Royale

Seeing that Open That Box! Day is a non-sport holiday, it MUST be celebrated appropriately! So, here's what every holiday has to have:

Hello everyone - Happy OTB day. I had rugby duties to do today so I didn't have chance to post my pulls. For those interested the score was Monmouth 16 Brynithel 20. Only our third lewague win this year!!!

I opened two boxes with my wife this morning. One of the boxes I had bought probably 6 months ago, and the other at a trade show last week.

1 Marvel Masterpieces set 3 (Skybox 2008)
2 Marilyn Monroe Shaw Family Archives (Breygent Marketing Inc 2008)

The Marvel box was opened first which yielded the following cards

Sketch card signed by Karen Krajenbrink (pulled by my wife)
Marvel Knights – MK1 – MK9 full set
X-Men chase XM6,7
MM6

The Marilyn Monroe box

Sketch by Connie Persampieri (pulled by my wife)
Costume Card – scarf (pulled by my wife)
Behind the scenes - MB6,7,8,9,
Round the World - MD1,2,9
Swim Suit fun - MS2,3,4

One interesting fact is that my wife pulled all the higher cards. Sets could have been better, the MM set was third of a series and it showed –the set seemed a bit rushed. It’s always fun opening boxes, and I hope others enjoyed their day too!

I opened a retail box of Star Wars Episode 1 widevision cards from 1999. The box contained 36 packs with 8 cards per pack. Some of the cards had started to stick together and meld into a clump. I was able to save most of the cards, but a few ended up with nasty little flakes and speckles on them. Those were tossed, along with several other cards I found with bent corners. But luckily I do have some spare singles around here somewhere, so I should be able to complete these sets. My box yielded 1 complete set, 1 set missing 1 card, and 1 set missing 7 cards. I also got 1 complete set of the stickers, with 2 spares (S11 and S14), and 5 of the foil cards (F1, F1, F5, F7, F9). Dan Carleton

It's great reading what everyone else has been pulling!
I've just compiled my Pepsi sets and noticed a mistake - The checklist states that card 63 is "Turkey: Pepsi Parade" whereas in fact it is "The Barter System"; 64 is the Turkey card and from here on the cards are 1 number out of step with the checklist.
    Au Res.,

Its fun reading today's OTB thread and even more fun to open a box myself...

My choice is a sealed box of Inkworks Lost in Space movie cards which I bought heavily discounted, then completely forgot that I had it.

Never seen any of this set before.. I checked the CardTalk Box Breakdowns section and couldn't find any mention of this LIS box, but the Inkworks guarantee states 1 out of 10 boxes contains an autograph redemption card... UH-OH!! ( needless to say why, right?)

HERES A SWITCH.... I'm now hoping that my box does NOT contain a redemption card which I can't use. However the Jupiter 2 insert card (inserted 1 in 3 boxes) is on my wantlist so that one would be nice to get.

    RESULTS:
Opened all 36 packs of 8 cards... Have not collated base sets yet but I did put all the Heather Graham base set cards to one side to further examine later! Wink

    Double Foils (1:11) DF7, DF8, DF9
    War of the Robots (1:24) R2, R4

No Jupiter 2 insert (1:108) but the odds were not in my favor. Also there was no auto redemption (1:360) so I don't have to beat myself on the head for forgetting to Open This Box until today. Roll Eyes

    Conclusion:
LIS Movie is a nice retro (1998) set loaded with robots and Heather, and thats a good thing... I've added Lost in Space inserts that I'm missing to my long want list in the trading section so bring on the trades! Wave

    HAPPY OTB!!!

I'm a little late as I had to do some last minute prep before my family comes to visit for a week starting tomorrow.

I just finished busting my James Bond in Motion box and here are the goodies I pulled:

    BG50 BG55 BG60
    F53 F55 F56
    BA30 BA34
    TC04 TC07
Full Bleed Richard Sammel from Casino Royale
40th Style Terence Mountain from On Her Majesty's Secret Service

The Mathis triple piece is very nice as the textures and colors of all 3 swatches are so varied.

My second box is Heroes Season 1. I pulled the following from it:
8 of the 10 different Character foils
Hiro's Jacket with parallel rows of grey stitching.

All in all a nice way to spend sometime on our hobby. Big Grin

Well we wanted to participate but economy being what it is, we opted for the Open Four Packs Day instead (4 packs, 4 Kohlbuses, you get the idea) and the product selected was ... Spongebob Squarepants! Each one of us anxiously opened our packs - Alexander (10) being the first to break into his and found a nice collection of base cards and one alphabet sticker card. I was next, being quick with my fingers and found the same. Evan (5) was third, mainly because I had pre-opened his just a smidge, and immediately howled with glee because he too found a "letter" card - aka alphabet sticker card and lastly came Robert who also found the same. No chase, no spongy card and no sketch card (sadness ensued temporarily) but pretty cards and STICKERS which were a huge hit with the younger crowd so all in all a nice opening for us.

After participating last year, but forgetting to share my results, I definitely wanted to get on here and tell how my OTB Day went. I had two boxes of Bond Archives that I have been planning to open and it has been a long week since the boxes arrived before I got to open them today!

    I got:
    Cecilie Thomsen auto FB
    A109 Tom Chadbon auto
    Paul Ritter auto FB
    Tobias Menzies auto FB
    DL 10, 12, 16, 17
    CB: 191, 194, 195, 197
    F: 64, 66,67
    Q: 9, 10, 11, 12
    0069
    QC06 398/850 (Medrano swatch)
    QC10 253/725 (Mathias & Bond dual swatch)
    QC13 690/775 (White's jacket & Bond's pants dial swatch)
    QC26 482/625 (Greene's Driver's jacket swatch)

Overall, I really like this set and love the continuation of all of the sets, as it got me to bring my big Bond binders out and sort the Bond Villains, Complete Bond, Dangerous Liaisons, and 40th Anniversary cards into their appropriate sections, which let me look through m other sets and enjoy them again. It was a good day Smile

Slept in today, which was nice, and went to recycling and to Wawa for coffee, and then did some tax returns while watching the Rangers game (lost again, lousy bums!). It was then time for OTB day! I had picked up boxes of RA's Women of Marvel and Fantastic Four a while back, and I had to put them out of sight least I be tempted to break them. These are my two favorite releases from the past year or so, and the sketches are always quality, so that was my rational for going with these. Pulled the chase at the stated odds, and was very happy with the sketches, a cool sketch of a trio of Galactus' herolds, Gabriel,Firelord, and Nova. WOM produced this great, moody Elektra by CT member Dave Fox! A sucessful OTB day. We even got Harris to open a box, and he made a patriotic box choice, to boot, although I think he was hoping for that "Presidential Pup" redemption!
