and goodbye. I've thought about this and realized that leaving is the best course for me to take. I loved it here when I first joined and I don't want anyone to think that I'm leaving because of anything negative. It's seems like this community has expanded and I'm glad. I'm thankful for the friends I had when I was here. I'm grateful for what trades I was able to make and will always be touched by how many people were willing to help me out with getting promo cards when I couldn't make it to any conventions.

I know I wasn't the easiest person here. My knowledge of cards was at a bare minimal. Thank you all for putting up with me- but now, you no longer have to do that Wink

One side note- I did manage my first master set before Inkworks retired. And yes, it was for the Witchblade tv series. Smile

One more thing, it wasn't anyone here that has turned me off from coming back- I wouldn't let that happen. Money, time and interest has stopped me from making a comeback. And the longer I'm gone, the more I realize that Harris and all you other fine people don't need an inexperianced collector, like me, here. I've been gone so long that I just don't see a place for me here and even though it makes me sad to think about it- it's just a normal thing to happen.

I don't know if Harris wants to delete my account. Some time in the future, I'd like to get another copy of NSU just to check on the cards I do have.

All of you, enjoy what you have here. I know I did. Now, a Happy Dance cuz who wants to leave on a sad note.

Elephant Dance Elephant Dance

much love and respect to you all!
~ Holly

Holly, Wish I knew you were here, I'm new at collecting cards and for the past few years i have been looking for older promos. Bet we would have had a lot to discuss on cards. Best wishes to you and all your family and hope you return to the Non-sport family some day. Thanks, George. Wink Metal

It's not often tha this happens, but I actually agree with Wolfie - we need more so-called 'inexperienced' collectors, not fewer - sometimes a question will cause those who think they know everything to stop and think and realise that they don't, and that is a good thing.
Perhaps all yo uneed is a break away, in which case take some time before cutting off all ties.
Regardless, a personal thank you for participating in the community and I hope to see you on here again some time!

Hi Holly:

You really need not leave. It doesn't have to be a "I'm here" or "I'm not here" sort of thing. We have members who run the gambit from those who check for new messages hourly, some who visit once a day, some who visit once a week, and some who just check in every few months. There's no reason you can't just check in every so often to see what's going on.

Also, the same goes for levels of expertise around here. Those run the spectrum and there's no rule that says you need to know a lot to be here. Many come here to learn what's new or what others think.

Anyway, don't feel you need to make a definitive break.

Regardless of what you choose to do, best of luck to you.

Harris

My collecting habits have changed over the years, whether it was due to finances or interest in certain sets. My posting habits have also changed, but I know that if I ever want to visit Card Talk, I can easily sign in once again.

I wish you the best of luck, and let me know if you ever need some of the convention promo cards. I'll try to help you with those.

I also think that you are wrong with your statement here. All of us started off as newbies (and some of us still are...), but I don't think Card Talk was made just for veteran collectors. Collectors who are just getting into the hobby are excited and enthusiastic and help me remember part of the fun of the hobby--being able to connect with others who collect cards.

Congrats on completing your master set. I know that must have been a good feeling when you got that last elusive card, right?

Hopefully, you will return to Card Talk in the future. Remember, everyone who has participated in the hobby is part of the family, and you will always be welcome back anytime. Good luck to you and thanks for participating in the community.

You don't have to leave. I have left for months and returned. I have left the site in anger and returned.

I actually enjoy people's post who do not see themselves as experts. I only know of 1 person here that I feel is an unbiased expert on non sports cards as a whole and that is Jeff Allender. You do have your experts on subgroups like Lynn and Star Trek cards. So, don't count yourself out.

Just cause someone has 50,000 posts of Wink or Shake Head or Clap does not make them an "expert" you should worry about.

You are always welcome here.

I wann't going to come back... it just didn't feel right and I really didn't think anyone would notice.

I found a rather nice e-mail from a certain somebody and well, I just had to say something.

When I said 'inexperianced' I meant that in the truest form. I absolutely know nothing about cards except for what I found out here, at this site. Everyone has been wonderful but do you remember some of my questions? Looking back now that I know a bit more, gosh how embarrassing! I think back and I really can't beleive I asked those questions or even brought up a topic.
I learned a lot here..most of you tolerated my naivete, some of you not so well. I still don't know much about cards and with Inkworks now gone- I'm even more lost. I just felt like a hinderance here and I didn't want the site to look bad. That's why I said goodbye.

Apparently, I've not stopped collecting cards as I just obtained three that I'm very proud of and would like to show off. Maybe I can't be here as much as I would like but... I think I can manage a few posts now and then.

With all the changes, maybe a break to get my thoughts straight would be a better idea than 'burning bridges'.

Thank you, everyone, for understanding. Smile

~ Holly

Holly, we'll miss you. And just so you know, I don't recall you ever asking a dumb question. Best of luck, and please feel free to come back if you desire.

And any serious question someone asks is valid, frankly, because that's one of Card Talk's purposes - we help educate each other.

Gee Holly, I just responded to one of your posts in another thread and then I saw this.

Perhaps you have reconsidered leaving Card Talk in the past couple of days. There are no requirements, despite what you seem to be putting on yourself, and everyone has different views. The people who disagree on one topic are the same people who agree on another, and truly none of it so serious. The main thing is that everyone here loves to collect non-sport cards and wants to connect with each other and the hobby.

I hope you decide to stick around, or at least drop in now again. Best of luck whatever you do. Smile

Hollypop,
hope you decide to stay & hang out. I don't believe there are any silly questions. All knowledge is good and it oftens helps us see things from a new perspective.
I just enjoy having a forum to share my enjoyment for cards.

Don't make me cry, people! I'm still here just not near enough as I used to be or want to be.

I really missed not being here and thought I should say goodbye for reasons I stated earlier. Now, I''m just able to do the occasional post. I feel left out and it's hard to make friends that way but I just love cards too much to stay away. Big Grin

Holly,

I'm new around here. Heck, I'm not even a real card collector as I'm only interested in one very specific set plus a few PSCs that I'm getting done. However, I do know that when it comes to any kind of collecting the most important knowledge you can have is just the answer to a very simple question:

Do I know what I like when I see it ?

An in depth knowledge of who produces/produced the item, how it was made, what to look for to determine how 'valuable' it is and so forth simply isn't necessary. What is important is that you collect the things that appeal to you, that have a resonance with you, that strike a chord with you...are you detecting a certain central theme here Big Grin Every single collector who ever lived is an expert in their own way because they all understand exactly what it is that they find appealing about their collection . If they can convey that feeling and enthusiasm to others through a forum by talking and asking questions then that is wonderful and makes them as important, if not more so, than the knowledgable 'experts' who can tell you the exact pigment used in the ink used to produce a card. They're probably a lot more fun to talk to as well Smile With over 1400 posts, I can see you are a very welcome visitor to this site, so please don't leave because you don't think you 'know enough'.

One final thought about asking questions. I learned a long, long time ago that only really stupid questions are the ones you DON'T ask that leave you missing a vital piece of information. Twak Wink Big Grin
