Ah, very nice. I love the card and it was driving me nuts not knowing who did it! I didn't see that name on some of the posted lists of artists who were doing the Target Red sketches at all so a very nice suprise. Wonder how many Target sketches she did? Only a hundred in the regular set, with sketches of this high quality I can see why!

The info I have is that each artist who did red sketches for the target 'retail' boxes were asked only for 50 but I suppose some could have done less. Hence the 1/48 odds for pulling one of these particular sketches.

Some artists definitely did less than 50. I know that for a fact. Leah prob did either 25 or 50
March 01, 2009, 05:21 PM
igman7Yup! I do belive that NOBODY did more than 50.

Yep, she did 50, I got response from her on the Scoundrel Art community forum about the card and how many she did for the Target set. She did a hundred for the Hobby set.

SeanPatrickPenceCongrats on the Solo sketch
steve j! I didn't render very many Hans (4 or 5?), so I'm glad you at least got a 'decent' one!
I haven't seen many of my cards being pulled so it was a cool surprise seeing one here!
And following the conversation, I managed 25 for the TARGET exclusives as well and... haven't seen a single one surface yet!
March 02, 2009, 12:23 PM
chesspiecefaceWell, I've gotten 2 cards by Sean Pence over the years (X-Men 3 & Breygent Posters), and both went into my "permanent" collection, even though I do trade/sell many of the sketches I get, being more of a general card collector that a sketch collector.
My point is, even profiteers realize some cards are worth holding on to, and for real collectors, forget it, most Pences go straight into the binders and emerge only for bragging. I wouldn't count on a lot of these surfacing, and certainly not without (deservedly) huge price tags on them.
And, thanks a lot Pence, for mentioning your 25 cards in the Target packs. My chance of finding any of those packs just went down from .0000002% to .0000001%!

CardFanSean, I was very excited to pull one of your sketches in my case. I believe it was one of Padima's escorts? When I first saw it I thought it was a regular base card! Upon further close examination I was thrilled it was a sketch. It looks more like a photo than a sketch. I told myself I would sell off the good sketches to pay for the case but now I'm not parting with it. Thanks!

Thanks Sean for your comments - I was absolutely thrilled to pull it, and now it sits nicely in my collection.
The great thing about sketch cards is that you can build your collection as slowly or quickly as your wallet will allow. I buy cases only occasionally, the downturn and exchange rates have meant I buy fewer boxes. However, over the years I have pulled Corroneys, Staggs, Sohns, Walks, and now a Pence.
I love my little collection, its not big, but it's unique. Thanks Sean and all you artist people for filling our lives with little pieces of cardboard joy.

I think you've just summed up why I love collecting sketch cards Steve !
I can't afford to buy the top end cards, but the cards I have are perfect for me and make me happy.
That Han Solo is a beautiful card !

SeanPatrickPence chesspieceface - Thanks for the kind words and the perspective!
I suppose when I'm anxious to see case pulls or when browsing a certain auction site, I never give much thought to some cards just going straight into binders! It's always cool seeing what surfaces though. Oh and sorry for the dismal odds on the TARGET sketches...
CardFan - That was an amazing compliment, thank you!!
Really glad you like the sketch and incidentally, although I didn't have a base card this time, maybe next time...?
steve j - You're most welcome!! And although you guys might consider them "little pieces of carboard joy", trust me: after doing these sets for a few years, *I* refer to them as "Cardboard Monsters"!
