More of a pack breakdown but I had to share. I am working on scanning in the pictures.
5 packs. Pack 3 a sketch that goes into the Hall of shame. A pencil of the Mach I helmet by an artist with a scribble that I can't make out.
Pack number 5. IMC-12 Armor card!!!! It is a neat card and I can't wait to show my son but I don't know if I am going to keep or trade it.

Great set though. I have to say I'm really impressed with the set (amazing sketches).. especially after the delays in the beginning.

Sad part is I could care less about Iron Man 2. It just seemed like a fun break.

I wish I had this kinda luck with Heroes 1 or 2 like I do with the Marvel based products. Id be a happy camper!

I recently bought 1/2 of a box and got no sketch card ( Frown ), but a few cool cards (AC 1 - Iron Man, AC 4 - War Machine, and AC 5 - Black Widow, plus some CC cards), and more base cards for my set...

Apparently they wil be posting a checklist for Iron Man 2 on the website around May 18th, but I don't know if that includes the artists.

Here's the sketches from a retail case of 6 boxes. Each box is 48 packs, but they pretty much hold the same amount of hits (3) as do most hobby boxes, although 2 of the 3 hits in each box are costume cards, with only the third one being a sketch card. It's the other way around in the 24 packs hobby boxes with each usually holding 2 sketches and one costume.

ARTISTS: Mike Miller BUKSHOT Michaels TURNER

Here's a closer look at the 2 color sketches:

The Controller, painted by George Davis.

Remy EISU Mokhtar

These Retail boxes were solicited as also having autographs in them (part of why I made the big purchase), but I didn't find any in my case, a little disappointing. While the costume cards in these Retail packs seem come at the same rate as they do in Hobby boxes (1 per 24 packs), the retail sketches are seeded just 1 per 48 packs, so 4 times tougher than sketches in the Hobby boxes (which come 1 per 12 packs).

If the autographs are 1 per 4 hobby boxes, and they are indeed also found in the retail boxes, the odds for them in the Retail edition are surely higher. They would most likely be found 1 per 8, 12, or even 16 retail boxes, which would explain why I didn't pull one from a 6 box case. (Of course, they very well may be more commonly found in retail boxes and I was just unlucky.)

One nice thing I can say about the retail case for sure is that it did yield a complete set of the regular 11 costume cards (with one double).

Hard to say if the superchase Armor card can be found in the retail packs, but I didn't get one. Has anyone found either an Armor Costume Card or an autograph card in a retail pack?

Base set-wise, the retail boxes seem to yield 2 base sets each. Having sorted my 6 boxes, I had 12 base sets and you would think the extra 400 cards would make a couple more of the 75 card sets, but no, they made zero additional sets, not even close. The reason for this is that the vast majority of extras were of the cards numbered 1-25. With that in mind, it is very likely these cards are on a 100 card uncut sheet and the cards 1-25 appear on the sheet twice (double prints).

As far as the other insert sets go, the Armored cards sorted perfectly to make two full sets of 9 cards (plus a few more doubles). These are an excellent companion to the 9 card Armored insert set in the original Iron Man movie set from Rittenhouse. The Die Cuts also sorted well with one complete set of 9 and another near set with 8 of 9 (and just one double, so the case could've made 2 sets with perfect collation). The Classic Covers didn't sort out quite so well but I did get 4-5 sets with enough left over to make a few more had they been collated just a little better. The border on these cards remind me of the Skybox Superman Premium Widevision set from the 1990's

The base cards and insert cards are very well done. The costume cards are also quite nice. The sketch cards are quality-wise, equal to any previous Marvel release with the exception of Marvel Silver Age (unrivalled by any sketch set in ANY set, except Simpson Mania) and Fleer Ultra Spidey 1997, so that's high praise indeed. The autograph cards, not that I have any, are well designed, but should have had larger stickers (if stickers must be used) on them. Overall, I give this set an A-.

Giving the recent unrest at Upper Deck and the hit and miss nature of their of Marvel Masterpieces sets (sketches and autos were good, but the base sets all extremely lacking, and seemingly thrown together as afterthoughts), I was going to skip this release entirely. But after it came out, I found myself purchasing sketches due to their overall excellent value for the money on the secondary market. So I decided to give it a shot and pull a few sketches (and autographs, sigh...) of my own, before they're all gone. But even in this retail edition, these cards are so value loaded, they will eventually be completely sold out, and I expect these boxes to sell for over $100 (particularly the hobby editions) by this time next year).

Thanks, Raj! I'll fill that in above.

Does any one know who the upside down character is in the sketch by Bryan Turner?

Hey everyone!

Thanks for taking a moment to view this (to all that might).

I have become a bit of a freak for comic art. I really haven't been hip to the whole "sketch card" thing just because of the size of the art. I frequently buy comic pin-ups and pages of published art. But, most of that stuff is done at a larger scale.

But, recently I found myself taking a real interest in the cards. Some of them are just awesome. And there is something really appealing about the level of finish to some of them.

I just have a few questions and comments.

First off ... I don't want to buy the boxes. I have my reasons. Mostly, I have HORRIBLE luck. And, I will undoubtably get the one box that has onely 1 sketch in it. And it wont be color. it will suck ***... and it will probably be torn in half. LOL

And I just dont' care about the autographs or the pieces of costumes and all. So, I've decided to buy some of the cards that I want directly though ebay.

But, then ... the problem is that I don't know some of these artists or their card's rarity. That's really my main beef and what I came here for.

And because I'm unsure of the card's rarity it's tough for me to know what their values really are or should be. And, some of the cards I like are listed at nearly 200 dollars. (some are way more) I wish I knew for certain whether there is NO other way to get these cards. Then, I might decide to pick one of the high end ones (knowing that if I don't buy it, I wont have an opportunity to buy it again ... AND that IF I had to sell it for some reason (I was dying and needed money for a surgery), I would be able to get my money back from the card. (I don't care to make a profit ... I just don't want to get ripped off)

And there are just SO MANY different artists popping up with their names on sketch cards. I mean to ask: Is that right? Or, are people just hi-jacking blank cards and putting thier own version of IM on them?

I liked that on the other sets I saw (women of marvel) ... the web site listed how many cards each person did. Where some people did over 200 finished sketch cards ... one artist may have only done 25. Then you know ... it's like ... OK ... the guy who did 25 ... if I want one of his ... I might have to really pay for it.

Is there any way, wiht this IM set, to know that yet?

Thanks for the time ... I'm so tired that I can't think of the other questions I had ... but, I've been at work all night. Write more tomorrow. And by the way ... some of the cards I've seen on this site are just awesome.

Dear Lord ... I got to thinking. (I should know better than try thinking) I thought ... the only hope of me getting some of these better cards would be by buying a pack.

I haven't heard back here yet. So, this morning I set out to buy a box.

I could NOT find one.

None of the local shops had them. I went to target and bought like 20 packs.

NOTHING> NADA .... ZIPPPPPPPPPPPPP

I thought ... well ... the sketches must be in the remaining packs ...

I bought the rest.

zip.

I hate myself.

Don't despair. Buying packs from retail can be hit or miss. Your best bet is to find your local comic or sports card shop, and see if they can get a box for you. If none of them do, check some of the advertisers in Non-Sport.

Now, seeing that you are a new member of the forums, I bet you might not have access to an issue. In that case, I advise you to scour the internets to find places that sell non-sports cards. Someone will have a sealed hobby box for sale. It might not be at cost, but it will be a better bet at finding sketch cards.

Also, expect to pay top dollar for the better painted sketch cards on the secondary market. That's just the way it goes. Everyone wants the quality cards. Personally, I don't look at card collecting as investment, I look at it as a fun hobby. As long as I don't collect for profit, I'll never be disappointed if the "value" of a card drops.

Good luck, and welcome to card talk!
