Can someone tell me if the 45 card set for Big Screen Dr. Who released in 2007 was a promo set or was it sold by strictly ink?

Also, how were the 1995 oversized Batman Forever Metal Prints distributed? Were they sold or promotional?

I think i'm right in saying the Dr Who set was a premium with the dvd release.

In the dvd you got a pack of cards, say 5 cards, to get the set of 45 you would have had to buy a lot of dvd's.

However, since then the full sets of 45 cards have been for sale on Ebay.

Mr Wolfie is quite right, initially they were freebies with the UK re-release of the Peter Cushing Dalek movies. With each DVD you got a Promo Card, a Autograph Card and 5 of the base cards. The full set was put into Strictly Ink's first yearbox release, without the Auto or Promo cards - hence the glut of them on that auction site.

So if I understand you Englishmen, these ARE promotional BUT there is a "real" promo inserted in each DVD along with another autograph promo and 5 "promo" cards which form the base 45 card set????????????????? Now, can you tell me if there was more than 1 promo card or did each DVD contain the same one. Also, How many promo Autograph cards were there inserted in the DVDs and of which actors?

The same Promo card was used as a front card, the packs were in a clear sealed wrapper, the autograph was Yvonne Antrobus in all of the packs and you got 5 sequentially numbered "base cards" ie 1-5 or 6-10, but you could not tell which cards were in the packs as memory serves, promo at the front and auto at the back. The autograph card was the same one issued in the original "Doctor Who Big Screen" set, I think it was the binder card originally.

Allthough the promo advertised the Big Screen Additions set the 45 card set did not promote anything and therfore was not a promo of any sort.

It does not belong in a promo collection.

Interesting observations from the Wolfie dude, they do not promote anything, on the other hand they were never available for sale therefore could be classed as promotional items themselves.

It all depends upon the classification of a "promo" card - does it have to promote a set specifically? Does it need a unique numbering ie P1 or PR1?

Initially the cards were not available outside of the DVDs. Does this make the CSI cards that were available with the DVD sets in the UK not promo cards? And what of the oversized UFO cards?

It all depends upon the collectors definition of "promo" surely, a bit like the "Master Set" debate it is open to individual interpretation?

A promo card has to be promoting something, if it does not then it is not a promo.

Any card that comes with a dvd, or anything else for that matter, is a premium.

.......unless it promotes something in which case it is a premium promo.

What was the promo that it came with ? Was that one that was generally distributed to dealers, or was that a unique card ?

Albert, regardings the prints, I seem to recall that with most of those early to mid-1990s sets, the prints were dealer case incentives. Most of the Marvel sets by Fleer, from 1994 onwards, had them.

I believe it was the standard Big Screen Additions promo card.
