Beanie Baby

9 card set untitled but photographs of TY Beanie Baby toys. Issued about the beginning of 1998 by CMI. . They are as follows:-
P1 Garcia
P2 Lefty
P3 Caw
P4 Hoot
P5 Mystic
P6 Inch
P7 Goldie
P8 Hoppity
P9 Large group of beanies

Each card features a photograph either side with a larger one on the front. The back gives brief detail of the numbers made, the actual birth date of the beanie and its retirement date. The P9 card also advertises that Beanie Baby trading cards will be available from Valentine's Day '98.

Prior to the introduction of the official Beanie Baby trading cards by TY other issuers were producing cards. The TY group did prevent some from circulating but not all. These cards may have had some form of official sanction as the TY logo on the Beanie is quite prominent.

A couple of images:-

Good Evening

Some more cards found in one of my Promo Card Binders I am sorting out.

This time a set of 9 cards featuring character images probably from the animation film Open Season. Copyright date of 2006 shown along with Sony Pictures Inc. The cards have perforated edges (some with two others with three) and measure 3½ x 2½ inches. There is also an additional smaller card that measures 2½ x 1¾ inches. I have two sorts of these smaller cards, one states "Sony Pictures Animation" and the other "Open Season". I presume the cards were attached to each other but all of mine have been separated. The backs are black and are magnetic.

The nine separate character images are:-
Buddy
Deni & Serge
Elliot & Boog
Giselle
McSquizzy
Mr Weenie
Rabbits
Reilly
Rosie & Maria

Herewith some images:-

Good Morning

I have a Evil Ernie II Sweepstakes entry card on one side and on the other it promotes other products from Krome Productions. It dates from 1995 and I suspect that it was inserted in packs/boxes of cards but what I don't know

Good Afternoon

Page 141 of the 2008 PCE has an entry for Star Wars "The Power of the Force" (POTF) being an unnumbered card of Luke Skywalker issued by Kenner in 1995. I have another nine cards and to my surprise when I carried out a search on CardTalk to see if there were any updates I discovered that btlfannz on CardTalk had previously enquired about additional cards in 2015. The query was answered by Allender who gave as an answer a link to a website which I have updated to http://www.andydukes.co.uk/am.htm which lists 25 cards for Star Wars including images of the cards and the packaging. On the front of the card the main differences between the two series are the titles "Star Wars" or "Action Masters" (AM) in the top left corner and how the character name is shown. The backs have more obvious differences.

Between the 25 cards, 10 of them are for POTF and the remaining 15 cards are for AM (see page 6 of the 2008 PCE for this entry). The cards are also numbered using an 8 character number. Be careful of the checklist further down the webpage as it shows the wrong group title for the first four POTF cards that are pictured. To create the two checklists below I have taken the information from the cards themselves. Note the above website merges the other Kenner Star Wars cards that were issued the previous year under "Action Masters" . 9 of the images are used for both series albeit with some minor changes and the Chewbacca card has the image reversed. The 10th card Obi-Wan Kenobi uses different images.

The 10 Star Wars "The Power of the Force" (POTF ) cards and their numbers are:-
523290.00 Han Solo
523291.00 Chewbacca
523292.00 Stormtrooper
523293.00 Boba Fett
523294.00 Darth Vader
523295.00 Luke Skywalker
523296.00 Princess Leia Organa
523297.00 Obi-Wan Kenobi
523298.00 R2-D2
523299.00 C-3P0
Additionally these cards state that they are printed in Hong Kong.

The 15 Star Wars "Action Masters" (AM) cards and their numbers are:-
509218-01 Darth Vader (new image)
509221-01 Luke Skywalker (new image)
509223-01 C-3P0 (new image)
509225-01 R2-D2
509227-01 Stormtrooper (new image)
509996-00 Darth Vader
509997-00 Stormtrooper
509998-00 Boba Fett
511819-00 Princess Leia Organa
511820-00 Obi-Wan Kenobi
511821-00 Han Solo
515859-00 Chewbacca
515860-00 Luke Skywalker
515861-00 C-3P0
515862-00 R2-D2 (new image)
These cards give no indication of where they were printed.

In addition I believe the PCE entry for the non Star Wars "Action Masters" cards should be amended to read as follows:-

509201-01 "T-800" (Terminator II)
509203-01 "T-1000" (Terminator II)
509206-01 "Predator" (Predator)
509209-01 "Queen Alien" (Aliens)
509968-01 "Lt. Ellen Ripley" (Aliens)
509969-01 "Face Hugger and Egg" (Aliens)
509970-01 "Classic Alien" (Aliens)

The following three cards should be in a separate entry of their own as they are the only cards to state SkyBox on their backs despite what the PCE entry shows. I believe it is misleading to keep the PCE list as it is as there appears to be no indication at all that the above 22 cards which show "Action Masters" have any visible ties to SkyBox

509212/AM1 "Batman" (SkyBox)
509215/AM2 "Catwoman" (SkyBox)
509230/AM3 "Legends of Batman" (SkyBox)
Note that the above three cards feature animated images whereas all the other images are real life images and they have two lots of numbering and also show a large DC logo on the front.

Lastly the entry on page 6 for "Action Masters" also has the following two cards listed:-
n.n. "Batman"
n.n. "Legends: Batman"

I think these should be omitted as they are probably the same as AM1 and AM2 mentioned above unless of course someone knows different.

regards

John

Good Evening

I have the following three cards:-

A Sports Time Inc club membership enrolment card which I consider promotes the card company - was this card issued with their card packs? I think it should be classed as a promo.

A Team GK card which promotes a comic book - I have no idea how this was distributed. Again I would class this as a promo.

A PetCare Happy Tails card which appears to promote a book range - is this card part of a series and was it issued with the books? Another promo?

The images are as follows:-

Sports Time Front

Team GK Front

Team GK Back

PetCare Front

Any input would be welcome.

Way back on 19th April 2015 you posted the following entry

"Boxing Greats (no year) Ideal Albums Ltd.
14 "Jack Johnson"...$4-5."

I can add that there is a card No 6 Jack Dempsey by the artist John Wallace see signature on the front of the image who may well have been responsible for the entire set as he was also the artist for card 14. I have got a review of the set in a magazine that is dated August 1991 so I suspect that the promo cards were issued prior to that. I am still researching that aspect. I enclose below images front and back of both Nos 6 and 14.

No 6 Front
[IMG:left] [/IMG]

No 6 Back
[IMG:left] [/IMG]

No 14 Front
[IMG:left] [/IMG]

No 14 Back

I recently acquired both cards for 50 pence plus £1.30 postage which I consider a bargain.

John

That's a great deal, John. Those cards are not often for sale. I had a shot at a Jack Johnson card two years ago. I thought I was safe with a $4 maximum bid because one had sold for #2-3 before that but someone outbid me at the end.

Subsequent to my previous post I have discovered that Ideal Albums company only ever released the one card set as in September 1991 it was announced in the Card Times magazine that the company was to cease trading.

As a matter of interest some of the original paintings for these cards will be sold by auction in early July by auctioneers Tim Davidson (Auctions) Ltd of Nottingham.

The 3-card set came out in 2001, and this book is from 2004. My guess is the cards the cover promises are a pack of Thunderbirds Are Go! movie cards.

John, can you provide any images, front and back, or any of these?

Sorry Todd I wish I could, I was merely trying to be subjective by asking the question of Promoking's entry in his updates whereby he added another 15 entries to the three you already had listed which when combined listed several entries twice. i.e. my question was "Are these different images or something else?"

looking back I don't seem to have got a response until now. My assumption is that two cards depicting the same dinosaur exist but with different images.

regards

John
