Hey Cecil,

I see a Steve Martin pack now for $70. That's closer to what I've seen packs go for the past (maybe $35 on the low end to about $60). I'm not sure it's the same seller.

The weird thing is that the pack has a different bottom card than I've seen before. In other unopened packs with Steve Martin on the top the bottom card was Flora Purim. There is also an unopened pack I haven't seen before with Gilda Radner on the top and Wire on the bottom.

Jess

Please read my post under the one you quoted. Thanks.

In other Warner Bros. Records Baseball Cards news...I had heard of another set of cards from 1975 but had not seen any until last year. I thought I had won a single last summer but the seller said she lost it a day later. It was going to be one of my favorite finds of the year. Oh, the pain, the pain. Then, a couple of weeks ago, the seller emailed to inform me that she found it. She actually added a couple of bucks to the price which was irritating. I was overpaying as it was for a less than NR-MT card but I bought it anyway because it's weird.

Anyway, here's the front and back of it. Like the 1979 cards, it promotes an artist and the album released but in the 1975 cards the back text is peppered with more baseball terms to make it read more like a baseball card. It helps that Bonnie Raitt's new album at the time was "Home Plate."

I've seen sellers trying to get crazy prices for singles but a #76 Prince card sold at auction for $610 with 18 bids on Oct 19. It's a surprising price for a card that doesn't look to be NM with the two worn corners.

A #71 Bob Marley went for $440 after 19 bids on Oct 1 and it's a PSA 6 - not even NM. It looks like I waited too long to collect this set. I'm glad I got a few at least.

A #83 ZZ Top auction ended at $153.05 with 24 bids on Sept 20 but someone got very lucky last week and got the same card for $5.99 with one bid. The latter wasn't as well-worded so a lot of potential buyers missed it.

A #48 Talking Heads card PSA graded 7.5 sold at auction for $255.55 after 22 bids on September 20. That card looks almost too good because most show at least a little wear at two or more corners.

And then a #85 Little Feat card sold as a Best Offer for something less than $232.49 (so maybe $180-200?) on September 18.

And then...the most surprising selling price I've seen for these cards. Unopened packs were going for about $60 (sometimes less, sometimes more) early last year. I haven't been checking prices for packs since around that time. An unopened pack sold at auction for $2025 after 21 bids on September 17 so it wasn't just two crazies shooting it out late though the two last bidders were two of the early bidders. Two other bidders contributed to taking it to $1000. The starting price was $250 which is crazy enough. For those who won't be able to see it in the future, it's a pack with Ry Cooder on the top and Maureen McGovern on the bottom.

I hope Cecil was able to get the Ry Cooder card to complete his collection before everyone went nuts.

A Bob Marley and the Wailers #71 card sold for somewhere less than $329 on June 7. I'm thinking it was in the $275-300 range.

An unopened pack with Ry Cooder on the top and Maureen McGovern on the bottom sold for $999.99 earlier today. However, another pack with Fleetwood Mac on the top and Nicolette Larson on the bottom ended at just $75 with one bid on August 14. The photos don't show all the corners.

Meanwhile, One Fleetwood Mac card with worn corners went for $175 on June 15.

Prices are all over the place for singles from a good deal on a pair of #74 Donna Fargo card for $4 on August 27 to $202.50 for a #71 Bob Marley & The Wailers (after 19 bids on August 14).
