Although I have a dedicated binder for all of my 'official' promo cards, I recently came across a few (forgotten) things in the back of my binder that are not cards, but are advertising upcoming card sets. They are 8 1/2 by 11" printed sheets. I have Men In Black (a two page 'brochure',) The Little Mermaid ( pro set), Playboy Chromium Cover Cards, and Playboy Centerfold Collector Cards. I have no idea where I got them, but 1997 is when. I also have two 5 1/4 by 7 1/2 " 'cards' advertising Images of Shadowhawk from back in 1994.
I'm curious as to where they fit into the promo 'genre'. Does anybody know? As I said, I had forgotten I had them, but now that I've found them again, I'd like to know what I have. With as many variations of collectors we have out there, I'm sure somebody can help me!

Hi Caitlin,

Welcome to Card Talk and the crazy world of promo card collecting.

The printed sheets are called "sell" sheets which usually are handed out by card manufacturers at trade shows, or are mailed out to dealers to solicite them to purchase newcard series.

I personally do not collect them but many people do and some sell sheets can bring some decent dollars.

Now the Shadowhawk cards I would consider to be promo cards. They are promoting the card release. I have many, many, many oversized cards advertising card series. The only difficulty with these is how to store them. I usually put each one in an 8 1/2" x 11" Ultra-Pro page and then put it in a 3 ring binder.

Hope this provides some information. I am sure someone else will chime in with more.

Mike.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your informative and speedy reply. I have seen the term 'sell sheets' from time to time, and I kind of thought that's what mine were. It makes perfect sense...after all, they're a sheet, and they(try to)sell something!
The Shadowhawk oversized promo cards that I have are nice. I will definitely get some large pocket pages to put them in. Happy promo collecting!

If you decide to collect the sell sheets, you can find boxes of 200 archival quality sheet protectors at any stationery store or warehouse club, real cheap (around $10.00)...a lot cheaper than typical one-pocket pages that you might choose to use for your promo sheets. Not to mention that you can fit more into a binder.

But are they acid free as the acid in the page will attack the paper.

I have a full size, 8 1/2 x 11, oversized Star wars promo I got in a magazine. If you're looking for storage options I recommend visiting bags unlimited. They'll send you a catalogue and they have everything imaginable for all sizes. For cards, records, cds, magazines, etc. Also check their ads in NSU.
