How about the American Major Player's 10 card Desert Storm Card and Map set. Other than myself, I only know of 2 other people that have all 10 cards. When I called the company to inquire about the cards, I was told that they were distributed at a Texas air show in the summer of 1991. 100 of each card was printed and only one card was given out to anyone who came to the booth. I am sure that most of them wound up blowing around the tarmac at the airfield. It took me 16 years to find my set.

Beamer,
No doubt that set definitely ranks in the top 10. I've been looking for it as long as you. Glad you found that auction last year. Thumb Up

I don't know what is the right way. I like the good guys to be informed, but the bad guys could end up being just as informed from these pictures. I guess that is a discussion for another topic here.

Here goes:

Enjoy,
David

Thanks David. I can see from those that it would be so easy to take normal promos and put a number stamp on the back.
I don't think i would pay more for one with a number on.

If a company wants to make a card limited to 10 or 100 copies they should destroy the others not allow them to get out into the market.

They need to find one of those cards first!

I agree they should not allow extras to go out, but it happens all the time.

From what I was reading in other posts- I would think so too.

However, before my computer crashed, I was able to obtain the elusive card Big Grin to add to my master set. It's the best Christmas present I ever bought for myself!!

Albert,

Where do you find these obscure promos??? Smile

Have you checked with Michael Beam? He seems to know the most about Desert Shield/Storm cards.

Mike.

The truth is I am always looking for the strange and unusual. Sometimes I get lucky. Wink
I'm waiting for beamer to chime in on this one.

Hi Albert,
The cards you show were produced in Medford Oregon by John Leffingwell. He had decided he was going to raise funds to donate money to the troops back in 91. Unfortunately, he priced them so high that they never really sold, plus by the time he started printing cards, the conflict was over. Then at some point, he gave up the project and abandoned all of his work. Several years back, someone found uncut sheets of his work in a warehouse. I tried to make a deal to buy them, but it never happened. I was able to buy about 40 of the promos and uncut samples along with some of his original signed artwork from John before he called it quits. I also have the original sell sheets and orderforms showing all of the variations the cards came in. I have pics if you would like to see them. Just email me direct.
Hope this helps and hope to see you at the next show.
Michael

I knew you would have the answer Michael. I appreciate it. How many of these promos do you think have survived other than the ones you own?
I had never seen them before and they are 16 years old already.
Albert

I know other Desert Storm collectors that have them. I would take a wild guess and say there are about 50-100 promos out there, but not all of the cards produced were promos. Some were 5 card mini-sets made in different colors.

Not sure who you bought it from, but there are more than 25 of them. I myself have had nearly 10 of them at one time, still have several, plus Barrie had them in the Yearboxes as well. At least it was in mine.

The promo is probably harder to get than most promos because the promo was never "distributed" through regular channels and the card set was not made. No idea to quantity though.

Mike.

From what we have seen there has to be at least 500 of the Carnivale promo knocking about. The fact the set was cancelled doesn't mean much as the promo's would allready have been printed.

It is often said that things like this are destroyed but a few get out. In my experience they are never destroyed and lots get out.

There were supposed to only be 25 Highlander promo cards done by Strictly Ink also. I do not think that is true also. They are in the yearbox and I have a set, so that's more than 25.
