PROMO Card Prices
The cards in the X-Men/Hanes 3-card set from 1993 sold in three separate auctions with Best Offers somewhere less than $75 (probably went for around $65 each).

This was a surprise.

That's the prism card from the "Akira" preview set (Cornerstone Communications, 1994) which was given out at shows and also sold by Cornerstone. About 20 years ago, there was a dealer at a local show who had 20-30 packs and he was selling them for $5 each. I bought a few and traded them over time. The prism card is usually on top but one of my packs had a different one on top (still have it somewhere). The value seemed to have peaked at around $10/pack by the early 2000's but today I saw this sale. Wow, 100 bucks just for the prism card. It's found only in the preview pack but packs still come up for sale for around $15.

As an added note, I noticed the Allender site lists a C2 promo card but I think that's just one of the chase cards unless there is a prototype version I haven't seen.

A Star Trek Generations #0 promo sold with a Best Offer for less than $126 (USD) on 2-13-22. The actual sale was probably about $100.

I saw someone sell a group of promos, G1-G5, from the "Star Wars Trilogy Widevision Special Edition" set for $99.99 on 12-29-21.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/32490...rksid=p2047675.l2557

At a $20 average and with each still in its cello-wrapper, that's a good price because while most of the toys were around $15, the G5 was with a toy that was more like $35-40. Not as many collectors were willing to spring for that much just to get the card.

You used to be able to get NRMT/MT G1-G4 for about $10-12 each but they're more like $15-20 cards now. The G5 is more like a $40-50 card - maybe more. I saw one for about $30 a couple of years ago. That was a good deal.

I saw an Edenquest Anna Nicole Smith (High Heels Productions, 1995) sell for about $30. It's not a huge jump but it was about a $5 card for years. I've seen dealers try to get $75 or more but that's a little too hopeful for that card. It's true that was uncommon when it was new and you probably can't find it for less than $20 now. It promotes a set that was never made.

That Dragon Ball (Bird Studio, 1995) holofoil promo which was consistently selling for $40-60 last year with one going for $75 is still a good seller -$59.99 on Nov 13. This is a card that seemed to skyrocket in value in 2019 with sales as high as $150. They have settled since but $40-60 is still impressive for a card that was going for $5-10 a few years ago.

I spotted two surprising sales. They are both cards (#1, 5) from the Back to the Future III (UCS/Amblin Entertainment, 1990) promo set that was inserted in cereal boxes in Canada. PCE2008 lists 7 cards and that might be the set. They used to go for about $3 cards 10-15 years ago (maybe $5-6 on a good day) but they sold for $56 each late last month and early this month. Why did someone throw money at those cards?

I've seen the Spider-Man: McFarlane Era promo (Comic Images, 1992) sell for $10-25 over the past couple of years but you can still find it for less if you're patient. It's a rather common promo - something that sold for $3 10-25 years ago. One sold for $49.99 on Nov 5 and four others have sold at the same price according to this listing:

This is/was a very difficult set to put together. I hadn’t realized the individual cards had reached that price level. It took me decades to put the set together. I’m glad I hunted for the singles when they were still accessible.

Hi Promoking,

Have you confirmed that it is a 7-card set?

Jess

Another surprising sale...a Wolverine From Then 'Til Now II promo (Comic Images, 1992), the slightly oversized one with the prismatic front, sold for about $236 in an auction with 1 bid that ended on October 2.

Hi Promoking,

Here's card $5 from the set. PCE2008 has it as a possible 7-card set but I heard there is an 8th card. Do you have that?

I see two more of these cards have sold around $100 in the past month. Sellers have tried to get more than that in the past year but it seems $60-100 is the range.

A Lion King SB1 sold on January 20th for an amount south of $1,799.00. Item # 234866211889. perhaps someone can post the exact amount of the sale. Sounds like a new record for this card.

I have looked but it just shows $1799.00 crossed through and includes the text "best offer accepted". It was sold by someone in the Netherlands who has over 300 other card related items.

regards

John

Sold for $1400 with $45 shipping.

It shows up as paid for as well. That's always in question on outliers.

Thank you!

The next highest price paid was $625 for which one sold several years ago. Of all the promo cards I've collected, this is the only one I won't part with because of its history. It is the cornerstone of any advanced promo card collection!
